The thing I am most proud of from this semester is how much I experimented with different programs and, through trial and error, was able to become used to each one. At the beginning of the semester, I was only comfortable using iMovie, SketchUp, and Sculptris to create projects. As the semester went on, I became bored of these projects and wanted to try to make animations, which I didn't think I would be good at. I used the programs Scratch and Piskel to experiment, and as I worked I realized how fun it was. I'm proud of myself for experimenting with things I didn't have any idea how to do because it introduced me to something really enjoyable.
My project is a large modern hose with a large yard with pathways surrounding it. I am using SketchUp to make it. So far, it has gone very smoothly, and I haven't encountered very big problems. I like how easy it is to make an idea come to life in this program, because of all of the options that are available, like all of the different tools and textures. I can add a lot of detail to the house because of this. In previous projects when I would try to make an upstairs to the house I was working on, I wasn't able to, but I found that when I added a very thin level between the two floors of my house, it would create a ceiling that would sperate them. So far, I am really proud of how clean it looks. Most of the time when I use SketchUp, there are always a ton of extra lines on the house, but was able to avoid that this time and I like the product much more now.
My tour is about all of the places I want to see in the world. I chose these sites because I want to see famous landmarks there, or try the food there. I really liked using tour-builder to put this together because it is very simple, and is like making a slideshow. I had no problems with this program. I might use it for a school project in history for a report on historical sights or something like that.
For this project, I used Sculptris and made the whole body of a Koala. I originally just wanted to make the Koala's head, but I thought it looked too incomplete. I decided to do something that I have never done before and make the body. I am most proud of how much detail I put into this project. While I was making the koala's ears and chest, I thought that it looked two-dimensional, so I used the grab tool and sized it down so I could pull out small individual parts of my project to make it looks like it had hair. I think to make my project better I could've added color. I think that would have made the mouth and nose look a lot more realistic. The only reason I didn't do this was because when I would go into paint mode on Sculptris, it would make the features I had put on the project more dull, and I didn't like the way it looked anymore. While working on this project, I have learned a lot more about Sculptris than I knew by the end of last year. I learned how to add details like the hair on the ears and chest, by modifying the settings of the tools. I also learned about the masking tool in Sculptris. I learned that you can use it to make things not be able to be edited, so that while you are editing certain parts of your project, you won't accidentally edit parts you didn't want to change. I had a lot of fun creating this Koala and working on perfecting it and making it look realistic. I am very proud of my final product.
This project is a giant, and extremely modern mansion. I used the program Sketchup to create it. Right now, I am working on the finishing touches. I am going to make it look cleaner, by erasing lines that I don't need, and I am also going to add some more landscaping to give the house some life. I am learning how to make things a lot more precise and realistic by using different materials and making everything symmetrical. I have been having trouble with the scaling of the house because I made it too big, but I didn't want to get rid of the unique design of my house . To solve this problem, I have tried to work around the problem by making all of the furniture to scale with the rest of my house. Overall, I have had a great time creating this project and learning all of the things I have learned from it.
This project is a tour of the places around the world where my relatives live, including places in California, Nevada, Washington State, Texas, and even Germany.
My investigation was how people could get the courage to talk to other people about their mental health. I made my game connect to this by making the goal be getting your character to her best friend, who will be able to support your character. I made the game be a journey from the main character's house to her friends house. She will meet many obstacles along the way that represent what a lot of people with anxiety go though, such as how sometimes it can hold you back from doing things you love, which I used stop signs and xs that your character will have to dodge to represent. Your character will have to overcome all of these obstacles to be able to finally get to her friend.
My screencast is a video of me working on a project in SketchUp and creating the main shape of a house, while explaining what tools I am using and how I am using them. I had used iMovie a lot in the past, but I think I improved on editing down footage, and speeding up clips to just the right amount. I had almost 30 minutes on footage to start with and was able to edit it down to 1 and a half minutes. I am proud of the audio in this video. I think I had the music low enough that you could still hear my voiceover.
For this project, I decided to start using the program Piskel for the first time and experiment with some fun animations. I have made four animations, the first of which is of a blue blob with eyes and a mouth jumping up and down. The next is of pixels that are scattered at first, and them come together to create a cat. The third is of a series of stripes that turn into different colors. The last if of a character jumping on colored blocks that burst into pixels when he lands. I am proud of these animations, but I would like to explore the program more and make more complicated animations in the future.
This is a video inspired by Zach King. He uses precise editing to make it look like he is doing tricks. My video is about someone getting ready in the morning using tricks like jumping into their shoes and snapping their fingers to do their hair. Though it was challenging at some times, I had a really fun time trying to make the editing precise enough to make everything look realistic.
