Telannia is a mathematics teacher at a public high school in Oklahoma City, OK. She has taught all high school courses, including AP Calculus AB, for over 15 years. Currently, she teaches Algebra II, Precalculus and AP Calculus. She is department chair for the high school. She regularly works with teachers across the district to create curriculum guides for various high school math courses. As a former journalist and account manager, Telannia found project-based learning as a viable method for teaching worthy mathematical concepts. Since being introduced to PBL during her first year of teaching, she has grown to be a master in implementing projects in a math classroom. This led her to co-author three books on project based learning. Soon into her career, she became involved and known by several organizations. She is a board member of the Oklahoma Council of Teachers of Mathematics and member of several organizations, including the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, International Society for Technology in Education, and Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. She is a former Teacher of the Year and Rookie of the Year and is a winner of the 2020 Oklahoma Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. She is a National Faculty member for PBLWorks, where she facilitates PBL training across the United States.
Creating Inspiring Learning Experiences - Participate in innovative, creative, and inspiring sessions that promote hands-on experiences in Makerspace & STEAM in the classroom. Workshops will give ideas for implementation, ideas and examples of classroom projects, and/or creative makerspace examples and innovations that will inspire educators. These sessions will be in-person workshops.
Creating Dynamic Learning Communities- Social-emotional learning can create equitable practices in every content area and for all students, including English Language Learners. Workshops will help participants create ideas for the implementation of SEL strategies, lessons, or other activities in the classroom. Please focus on how SEL can be embedded in the learning experience and not just an add-on. These sessions will be virtual workshops.
