Perspectives Psychotherapy PLLC

Change is about gaining a new perspective.

Kathleen Monforton, LCSW

Owner & Therapist

About me:

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based out of Charlotte, NC. I graduated from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.S. in Psychology before completing my MSW at Loyola University Chicago. Prior to starting my private practice I worked in hospital and community mental health settings in Chicago, IL. I am licensed  North Carolina and Illinois and I provide telehealth therapy to clients in states. I also offer in person sessions at my office in the Elizabeth neighborhood of Charlotte.

I have 10+ years of experience working with adults diagnosed with schizophrenia and other severe mental illnesses and I currently specialize in anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and  psychotic disorders. However, I also work with clients struggling with perfectionism, distress tolerance, substance use, ADHD, life changes, stress management, dating, or just “adulting”.

In my practice  I strive to maintain a warm, relaxed, and supportive space and I  believe in meeting the client where they are. I'm not easily offended and I'm not opposed to swearing. I am a proponent of harm reduction and your right to self determination. I also believe in the healing power of laughter, social support, meditation, mindfulness, and a strong therapeutic alliance.

I use a combination of talk therapy, skill development, & resource sharing in my sessions. I am trained in Emotional Freedom Technique/tapping and the use of improv in therapy. I also frequently use EMDR, CBT, ACT, DBT, insight oriented, motivational interviewing, and psychodynamic therapies. I am a LGBTQIA+ & BIPOC ally and welcome everyone to my therapeutic space.
