Chris Meyer serves as the Director of Bands at Perry Meridian Middle School. Mr. Meyer was previously the Assistant Director of Bands at Perry Meridian Middle School for two years after serving as Director of Bands at Wood Memorial Jr./Sr. High School in Oakland City, IN, for one year and Director of Bands at South Central Jr./Sr. High School in Elizabeth, IN, for ten years. Mr. Meyer received his Bachelors of Music Education from Indiana State University in 2005, and his Masters of Secondary Education from Indiana University Southeast in 2009. Mr. Meyer is in his 17th year of teaching.
Mr. Meyer is a member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), Indiana Music Educators Association (IMEA), Indiana State School Music Association, (ISSMA) and the Indiana Bandmasters Association (IBA). Mr. Meyer has had the honor to present a session at the IMEA Professional Development Conference in 2022 entitled "How To Rebuild Your Program After COVID".
Mr. Meyer has experience building band programs and establishing new performing ensembles, writing grants totaling $200,000.00 for instruments and renovations, and has traveled to Indonesia three times to speak at a university, train teachers, and help students learn music and English. He has conducted orchestra barefoot on the Island of Java and taken his 40 piece percussion ensemble underground to perform in Indiana Caverns.
In addition to his passion for teaching students music, he enjoys playing his horn in the Greenwood Community Band, traveling around the US and the world and experiencing new cultures, food, and people, building and fixing things, cooking, and hiking.
Melissa Main serves as the Assistant Director of Bands at Perry Meridian Middle School. Ms. Main is in her fourth year of teaching, having previously taught middle and high school band as a Long Term Substitute at East Grand Rapids Public Schools in Grand Rapids, MI.
A native to Michigan, Ms. Main received her Bachelors of Music Education degree from Michigan State University in 2018, graduating with Honor distinction. Ms. Main played as a member in several performing groups while at MSU, and studied Clarinet under Tasha Warren and Mingzhe Wang. Ms. Main has worked for several schools and organizations across the state of Michigan in many different capacities, ranging from Early Childhood Music Instruction to High School Concert Ensembles.
Ms. Main is a member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), Indiana Music Educators Association (IMEA), Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA), and the Indiana Bandmasters Association (IBA). She desires to continue furthering her education with a Master's degree in the near future. In addition to her passion for teaching students music, Ms. Main enjoys spending her time playing her clarinet in the Greenwood Community Band, walking in nature, petting dogs, being with family, traveling, baking, and bowling.
