Phonemic awareness is the ability to identify, isolate and manipulate language at the individual sound level and this is part of phonological awareness.

Phonics is understanding the relationship between letters and sounds. These relationship advanced when you introduce harder phonics skills.
Vocabulary is simply words that students now and have a good understanding of. This is built through conversations with family members and/or reading. When student's have a small vocabulary it can hinder their ability to comprehend, or understand, what they are reading. When you are reading if you don't know what a word means it can complete stop you from understanding what you are reading.
One great way to build your student's vocabulary is by reading to them, with them or simply having them read independently.
Fluency is when your student can read quickly and accurately. Reading fluency is reach by mastering all the phonics skills. Once students know all the phonics rules they no longer have to stop and sound out words when reading. Reading fluency is the bridge between phonics and reading comprehension.

Reading comprehension is the skill of being able to recall and understand what you read. This is the end goal for all of our panther time groups. We work with all the previous stages on this page so students will have good reading comprehension.

Read Alouds:
These are a wonderful resource no matter the grade for your student. There is a variety of stories to choose from where someone reads the story to you. It is a very fun interactive way to hear a story aloud.
Reading Comprehension:
In order to use this all you have to do is create an account and then search for your students grade level passages. To do so, on the left side of the website it has a section to choose grade level. There are also different sections that you can search if you want different genres and themes of passages. You can then choose to print out or stay online with the stories and have your student read and answer the questions. Once they have answered the questions, there is an answer key to refer back to in order to check their answers.
