If you have any questions at any point along the way, OIE is here to help!
Please reach out to the senior manager of assessment, Dr. Melanie Hogendorp at melanie.hogendorp@pepperdine.edu.
Step 1: Identify the assignment.
Refer to the program's assessment plan, also found on the "Outcomes and Continuous Improvement" page.
Step 2: Prepare to collect the direct and indirect data.
For indirect data, there are several options:
Qualtrics for surveys. (For survey policies, please check: Provost's survey policy page)
You may also refer to the "ASARs" page on your assessment site for your ASAR template.
Reminder:
Direct data is evidence gathered from a performance-based observation or sampling of student work. Example: using a rubric to evaluate the quality of student papers.
Indirect data is evidence that assesses the perceptions of students or faculty. Example: using a survey to assess how students perceive the quality of your discipline’s writing curriculum.
Indirect evidence is often used to help support your direct evidence findings.
Step 3: Score the assignments on your assessment rubrics.
This academic year, OIE is piloting the new Assessment Management System (AMS), Insights by eLumen, with programs that volunteered to test the software with us. Contact the senior manager of assessment if you're interested in piloting Insights this year!
Next academic year, 2026-2027, OIE will offer Insights by eLumen as our permanent AMS.
Step 4: Complete the ASAR.
Once you have the data, you can start writing the ASAR found on your "ASARs" page.
Step 5: Let us know you're finished!
When you finish the ASAR, inform the senior manager of assessment.
When are ASARs due?
ASARs are due on May 15 every year.
My assessment plan and/or assessment maps need to be updated. What do I do?
Send the senior manager of assessment your needed updates, and we will update your plan and maps for you.
If you'd like to make the updates in the Google Sheet yourself, we can also give you access to the sheet.
Need help planning? OIE can help with that too!
