Personal Journey and Outlook
Intro:
As an English instructor for individuals that have intentions of building a life here in America, I would like to share some insight of immigrants, including my mother's story, that I have always treasured close to my heart. The first story I would like to share is about Jose, my family’s gardener who has been with us for more than 30 years. The second story I would like to share is about my mom, who came to this country in her early 30's and continues to flourish in this beautiful country. Lastly, I would like to share the inspirational figures I have learned about in my school years which have inspired me to help others persue their dreams here in the US.
Body Paragraph 1:
Growing up, I would see Jose working on our garden every other week. He would sometimes help with extra tasks around our house (pulling weeds, fixing sprinklers) besides the basic gardening (cutting dead roses, planting fertilizer, blowing leaves). As a child, I can recall the times my mother mentioned how hard Jose worked and how far he has come in this counrty. The tone of how my mother told stories like this to me seemed as if she was trying to emphasize the importance of something. I didnt realize what these lessons were until I traveled to other parts of the world, and was able to fully embrace the precious freedoms I am so lucky to have as an American. Jose is now in his 60’s, and he has built a successful life here in America as an immigrant working as a gardener. As a result of his hard work, he has purchased three properties since he arrived the country. Although his English proficency is not “native,” his family, including his sons, has been thriving in this country ever since.
Body Paragraph 2:
Overcoming diversity is one of the greatest truths that this country has provided people like my family. As a single mother, it was difficult for her to raise two daughters on her own. My mom, like Jose, needed to work multiple jobs in order to maintain a safe and comfortable space for our household. The education my mom recieved in her later years gave the opportunity for her to secure a steady vocation so that she didnt have to struggle so hard balancing easily replaceable jobs.
Body Paragraph 3:
*Examples of immigrants who have built their lives here and despite challenges, have contiuned to make a difference in their communiry, and have been an insipriation to others
Conclusion:
As late Steve Jobs, previous CEO of Apple, once said "Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people's thinking." (Job, 2020).
