School information
Super Science!
We are really proud of all of our hard work in Science as we work towards our Primary Science Quality Mark. There is some fantastic Science happening weekly across our school, with the children gaining scientific skills and knowledge in abundance.
What our children say about Science at PEPA
“When you have agency, there are so many things you can find out that you might not know” - Year 6
"It's fun when we do experiments and try new things" - Year 5
“(I remember) because we did it every week and we looked at different circuits each time” - Year 4
“I like learning about natural habitats and deforestation and it makes me want to help” - Year 4
“I like it when Science surprises us” - Year 3
“I like Explorify because I use what I already know” - Year 2
"You get to do cool things" - Year 1
Cooking club
This term cooking club have been working hard on creating tasty treats and we have also been learning about food hygiene and how important it is to have a clean and clear work area.
So far we have created our own Pizzas and Puff Pastry whirls.
We will continue our creations next term and start experimenting with alternative ingredients for traditional pastry recipes. We will also be entering the Trust 'Bake off' competition, which is very exciting!
PEPA' Got Talent
We are excited to share some glimpses for our very own Talent show at Peninsula East.
We had a range of children featuring in the show including;
Gymnastics
Dancing
Drumming, a violinist and a pupil playing the keyboard
Singing
Ice skating
Map skills
Horse riding
We are so proud of all of our children who have taken part and what fantastic talents they have to! They were all very confident and everyone enjoyed watching the show. Each class will be voting towards the top three winning acts and prizes will be awarded to these as well as all receiving something for taking part.
Well-being Workshop
On Thursday 8th February, our well -being champions attended a Mental Health Week workshop to see work that a range of charities complete around Medway in order to help children. The children completed a range of activities that can help promote positive mental health, such as a nerf competition, a silent disco and some meditation. The children look forward to bringing some of these ideas back to school to see how they can be incorporated within our day to day activities.
PEPA Tots Chinese New Year Celebrations
Our children have been engaging in exploring the Chinese New Year. They looked at China's geographical location on the map and discovered the language spoken there. They had the delightful opportunity to taste various traditional foods , including spring rolls, rice, and noodles. They demonstrated confidence and skill in using chopsticks, adding a hands-on cultural experience to their learning journey.
They ventured into the world of colours by mixing red and yellow paint to produce vibrant orange. Inspired by the symbolism of the Dragon for the 2024 Chinese New Year, the children eagerly participated in crafting orange playdough to make a dragon. Finally, to end the week they learnt Chinese cultural dance and eagerly engaged in the graceful art of the Chinese dance with eagerness and determination.
Information
Measles information for parents and carers
Protect your child from Measles
You may have seen measles in the news recently. This is because there has been a rise in the number of measles cases in England. Measles is highly infectious and can make people seriously unwell. One-in-five children with the disease are hospitalised and on rare occasions, measles can be fatal.
The NHS are urging parents and carers to make sure their children are up-to-date with their MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccinations. Two doses of the MMR vaccinations are needed for maximum life-long protection. Parent and carers of children in Years 8 and 11 will be automatically contacted by the School-aged Immunisation Service to catch up on missed MMR doses if they are already scheduled a vaccine.
If your child isn’t in Years 8 and 11 you should check your child’s red book to see what vaccinations they have had or ask your GP practice. You can make an appointment with your GP practice to catch up on any missed doses, or call the School-aged Immunisation Service to arrange a vaccination. Their contact details are 0300 123 5205 or kchft.cyp-immunisationteam@nhs.net
The early symptoms of measles include: a high fever, sore red, watery eyes, coughing, a runny nose, aching and feeling generally unwell. Find out more about the symptoms of measles on the NHS website. If you have symptoms of measles stay at home and phone your GP practice or NHS 111. This will help prevent spread of the disease.
