As we come upon Homecoming week and the festivities that are involved I would like to give my insight on school dances, specifically homecoming. My qualifications for this task include going to every single dance since my freshman year. I´m a senior and I never want someone to mess up their year because they weren't true to themselves, which happened to me multiple years.

Starting off with Hoco Week, do whatever makes you feel most comfortable. Do not be pressured into doing nothing because the people around think it's lame or cringy, wear that lorax costume, paint your face with the american flag, and follow every spirit day to a tea if that's what your heart desires. This is not to say if you choose to do spirit week that you have to go all out, but this is a once in a lifetime thing, good or bad high school experiences aside, so just have fun with it and throw everyone's opinions to the trash.

Homecoming attire, this topic either makes you light up or its trigger word but if you stay true to yourself this will be the best part of the week. Those wearing dresses: the staff, the people around you, and me personally ask that you wear a dress that covers your tochus please. I will personally send you home myself (I won´t). In addition, don't be on trend if that's not your style. Wear a longer dress if that's more you, wear the funky colors, not everything looks good on everyone so don´t feel bad if you're not following the same silhouette and style.

Those opting for jumpsuits or slacks with a dress shirt: have fun with textures, patterns, and colors. The all black is very classic but a small personal detail such as matching colors with a friend or date in a small way is enough to divide you from the rest. If you are going with a date, think about coordinating colors. For example if your date isn't wear black accessories with their dress/outfit or is wearing a color that clashes with black opt for a white dress shirt with black slacks but if they are wearing all black with pop of color, wear all black with their pop of color as a tie or their color as your dress shirt color. Be creative and wear what feels best on your body.

The dance, no two people experience events the same and you will have the worst time ever if you spend the whole time pleasing others. Hang out with whoever makes you enjoy the night whether that's just friends, friends and a date, or just a date, whoever is going to make your night perfect. For those with low social batteries, rotate with multiple people if you get drained easily, make sure you have at least one person that you can spend the whole night with, and doors open at 9:30 pm for those wanting to leave early so never hesitate to go early if need be. If you get little headed easily, like myself, eat throughout the day and regularly even if you don't normally, there's both salty and sweet snacks provided so make sure to keep a few close enough to get to quickly, take advantage of the drinks because they will be your best friends.

Have fun and be safe, if you're planning to do something that you'd be embarrassed to see on the Barstool or someone's story in the morning, don't do it.
