Downtown Streetscape Project

Peotone is taking on a $2 million+ project to redesign and beautify the downtown area. Taking all this on, they hope to attract new business and help make it an overall better place for pedestrians. This project will hopefully bring in more business and events to Peotone. The renovation will include, Main Street, First Street, Second Street, North Street, and Crawford. 

The plan for these streets is redoing the sidewalks to make them a foot bigger and smoother, adding benches around the street, making the streets nicer and repaving them, adding streetlights, and more landscape such as plants, trees, flowers, and other landscaping features. With these small but tidy changes, the village is planning to make downtown a better place and more comfortable for citizens. They also plan to have a designated event center between Second and Main Street. This will be opened for different festivals and other fun events being held in Peotone.

The project is supposed to last from late April to the end of November at the latest, they plan that the paving and concrete will be down far before November though. During this period downtown will be blocked off and have heavy construction equipment. With these blocks and equipment everywhere it might be hard for people to access business downtown, but they have already planned that out. During the weekends and evenings, the construction is supposed to be more calm than it would usually be during the daytime. This will help businesses not lose money and for people to still support them even when there is construction going on. The village is also supporting the business on their social media and other promotional sites to make sure that they do not struggle during all of this. While construction is going on, there will be different parking options than the ones closed off. 

This project is to finally make Peotone downtown a better place. While many people disagree that it needs to be remodeled and would like to keep it how it is, lots of other people think it should be remodeled. With all the donations and new decorations coming to be, hopefully, it will bring in business, Peotone could change a lot and bring new people in and help make and build up the community.
