Selection Criteria

Induction Categories

A. There are three (3) categories. They are as follows:

  1. Student-athlete

  2. Coaches

  3. Special contributors/Distinguished service

Candidate Eligibility & Selection Criteria

A. Student-athlete

  1. Eligibility

a. Must be a graduate of Pennsbury High School (PHS).

b. Must be a varsity letter winner.

c. Must be out of high school a minimum of five (5) years.

d. Must be a good citizen in school and the community.

B. Coaches

  1. Eligibility

a. Must have coached a varsity sport for a minimum of ten (10) seasons at Pennsbury.

b. Must have served as head varsity coach of one sport for a minimum of five (5) years at Pennsbury.

c. Must be out of varsity coaching for at least five (5) years.

d. Must be a good citizen in school and the community.

C. Distinguished Service

  1. Eligibility

a. Must have displayed exceptionally positive influence on Pennsbury athletics for a minimum of fifteen (15) years.

b. If long service is the result of a volunteer position, then eligibility is anytime after fifteen (15) years of service.

c. If long service is the result of being employed by the district, then eligibility is five (5) years after termination of fifteen (15) years of employed service.

d. Must be a good citizen.

D. Special Admission

The Committee is firmly and permanently committed to the highest admission standards across all categories. Furthermore, the Committee acknowledges and is sensitive to the fact that special, unusual circumstances may arise. Therefore, the committee retains the right and privilege to admit a nominee(s) to the Hall under special exception circumstances. This criteria should be rarely utilized and under only documentable, very special conditions as determined by the committee. Examples of such a circumstance include, but are not limited to, the following: changes in employment conditions, such as maternity leave; untimely death; permanent injure/illness; and extraordinary achievement/accomplishment in support of Pennsbury Athletics not covered under other sections.

Nominating Candidates

  • The nomination process is open subject to the candidate eligibility guidelines.

  • The Committee has developed standard nomination and background information forms to facilitate processing.

  • Nominees will be contacted by mail and asked to return a completed standard background information form.

  • All nominations will be reviewed by the committee upon proper completion forms.

  • Initial research is undertaken to determine eligibility.

  • Eligible nominees will be placed on the voting ballot.

  • Nominees not elected will be placed back in the pool and reconsidered every year.

Inducting Candidates - Overall Policies

  • The great majority of the inductees should be from the student-athlete category.

  • The Committee will make a determination annually as to the number of inductees each year. The target is approximately ten (10) inductions annually after the initial "catch-up" phase due to the passage of time.

  • Policies, procedures, and practices should be reviewed annually.
