Overview

The Pennsbury School District mathematics curriculum aims for mathematical power in all students. Our courses actively engage learners in this pursuit. We pull from a variety of resources to teach our curriculum which is based on the PA Common Core Standards. We are confident that by fully addressing the standards, our students will be fully prepared for high school mathematics.

Students study of mathematics during middle school is critical to their long term success in mathematics. During this time, most students will complete or begin their study of Algebra 1. Pennsbury School District and the state regard Algebra 1 as a Keystone course. Students continue their study of numbers and number relationships by expanding to rational number computation and estimation and relationships among fractions, decimals, and percents. Problem solving and reasoning skills are developed through experience with problems involving area, volume, probability, and basic statistics. In algebra, linear relationships and their representations in tables, graphs, and equations are explored. Facility with proportion is developed through ratio and proportion, similarity, scaling, linear equations, and slope.

All students are given the opportunity to experience a broad and diversified mathematics curriculum. A strong emphasis is placed on the development of good work and study habits. An active involvement in the learning process is required of each student to guarantee success in our mathematics program.
