Course Description-

This course provides an opportunity for senior students to intern with a teacher at an elementary school. It is especially valuable for those students who are interested in a career that involves children. Students receive a certificate from the Pennsbury school district for their hours of service.

Child Development Practical students participate in 9 day classroom orientation period. Preparation units include a professional letter of introduction, lesson planning, portfolio preparation, growth and development of the school-age child, children’s literacy activities, positive guidance techniques and strategies, being a role model, professional conduct, confidentiality and the responsive classroom.

Students complete their internship in the elementary classrooms from Tuesday through Friday, for approximately 12 hours per week. They are at PHS-W on Mondays unless notified otherwise. Their school day ends at the regular time, however, students may stay additional hours with the children.
