Drama Club is part of Makefield’s Afterschool Enrichment Program for 4th & 5th Graders
Directed by: Matthew Kane and Ann Turry
General Information
Drama Club meets on Monday afternoons from dismissal until 5:00 pm. Come January, we will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays. Our season runs from September thru March. We have a limit of 37 cast members due to the size of our stage. If there are more than 37 registered students, then preference will be given to 5th graders.
Monday rehearsals missed due to school holidays will be made up on Wednesday whenever possible. All students must be picked up promptly at 5:00 at the main entrance. If you are planning to carpool, please inform Mr. Kane of your plans. If a student must miss drama club, please let Mr. Kane know so we can accommodate the absence.
Commitment
Drama Club is a significant commitment on the part of the student, parents, and directors. Students are expected to attend every rehearsal and arrive prepared (script, music, etc.) We expect all cast members to be positive participants. We encourage students to watch the original 1968 Oliver! movie to become familiar with the storyline and music.
Please refer to the important dates to be sure there are no scheduling conflicts. Cast members must attend the dress rehearsal in order to be in the performances. Further, Cast members must commit to attending practices and all performances. Failure to attend necessary rehearsals and/or performances will result in removal from Drama Club.
Parent Involvement
There is a tremendous amount of work in producing a show of this caliber. It is expected that all cast members will have one adult sign up for one of the following committees: Costumes, Scenery, or Props/Concessions. This is a community effort that is exciting, fun, and rewarding. All Parent Helpers will need to have current Volunteer Clearances.

Auditions
All students in Drama Club will audition and be assigned a role in the play. All roles include a named character with several speaking lines. (This is unique to Makefield's Drama Club, as most productions have only a few speaking roles with the majority of the cast participating in the chorus) And since this is a musical, there are also opportunities for singing solos and groups. Singing solos require an additional audition to happen later in the season. This year's audition is scheduled for Monday, October 5th.
