Pennsbury elementary students gathered in service to honor the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Families and staff from each of our schools donated specific items in order to contribute to the following local groups: St. Mary Medical Center (children's activity kits); Falls Township Senior Center (toiletries, socks, puzzle books), Connelly Center at CHOP (toiletries and gift cards for CHOP kiosks); Bucks County Homeless Shelter (clothing, baby items, and paper products); and Veterans Affairs (clothing and miscellaneous items). The students sorted and organized the donated goods and also made patriotic fleece pillows by hand for the veterans.
On October 25, 2019, Eleanor Roosevelt Elementary School held it’s annual Kids Walking 4 Kids event. The walk honored two students, Harper Renshaw and Delaney Bedell, both of whom received medical treatment for their congenital heart defects at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). The event raised $1,720 for the CHOP Cardiac Unit.
The Multi-Cultural Youth Leaders (MCYL) club raised close to $300 in a fundraising effort to assist in the revitalization of the Bahamas after the horrific events that kept the island resort territory in darkness in the wake of the Hurricane Dorian disaster.
On September 26, 2019, Afton Elementary School was named a National Blue Ribbon School. Afton, one of 362 schools recognized nationwide was honored for its progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.
Pennwood students and staff held their annual Unity Day on October 18, 2019. The day started with a pep rally kick-off followed by team building activities, and a re-teaching lesson that led to the school's annual Unity walk. The event focuses on the idea of building students with strong character and is designed to unit the school community to work as one group with a common cause.
In an effort to build connectedness and community among children in grades 3-5 as well as their parents, Oxford Valley kicked off the iRun4Life program in June 2018. The premise of the program is to teach children about exercise, healthy nutrition and giving back to the community.
A special gathering of 150 selected Pennsbury students in grades K-12 represented all 14 of our schools at Falcon Field to kick-off Pennsbury’s Committed to Life initiative for 2017-2018.
Banners filled with sticky notes were submitted to the national Orange Project, a youth-driven, educational and social media campaign created to share handwritten words of hope and inspiration for those who are suffering and to support more open communication about suicide.
The Orange Project offers emotional strength in difficult times and represents optimism and rejuvenation. It stimulates communication and assists in recovery from grief.
District administrators pitched in at ShopRite to raise funds for local food pantries. Superintendent Dr. William Gretzula, Afton Principal Dr. Joseph Masgai, Edgewood Principal Stephanie Hultquist, Makefield Prinicipal Donna McCormick-Miller, and Charles Boehm Principal Travis Bloom bagged groceries for one hour each to assist customers and encourage donations for the cause.
