Sellersville Elementary School General and Vocal Music teachers Nicholas Hill and Mary Beth Penjuke will use their $900 grant to purchase two Joia Tubes (one bass and one alto) and accessories that will be available to all students. Joia Tubes are a blend between a xylophone and a boomwhacker (a color-coded tube that produces different pitches). The Joia Tubes will spark student interest while adding an extra level of enjoyment to music class. Students will be able to play one single pitch (or tube) to help create a melody or play multiple pitches at the same time to create accompaniment patterns for informal performance during class. Students in the fourth and fifth grade chorus may use the Joia Tubes to provide accompaniment for the chorus when appropriate.
