As part of their Community Based Instruction, Life Skills students take field trips each month to practice what they have learned in the classroom. Typically, they go to restaurants, malls, and grocery stores to sharpen their math, reading and social skills. The benefits of putting these skills to use in real-world scenarios is that they help students prepare for life after high school.
Teacher Christine Fehnel is planning trips to the Montgomery Mall, a bowling alley, and the Pennridge Regional Police Department. She also hopes to visit a barber shop, a nail salon, the DaVinci Center in Allentown and Stardust Ceramics in Perkasie. The $1,000 grant will help cover the cost of those trips.
