Central Middle School

8th grade STEM students from all 3 middle schools designed a variety of items for 21st Century Learning Night which took place on May 28, 2019. The items were available for purchase and all proceeds benefited Pennridge FISH. Pictured next to Mr. Ruckle is Mrs. Barbara Faust, board member of Pennridge FISH.

Sarah Malik (Class of 2015) returned to Pennridge Central Middle School on March 28th. She spoke with over 200 8th grade students to share her educational and career journey. Her motivational speech was focused on how her passion for STEM was initiated in Mr. Ryan Ruckle's 8th grade Tech-Ed class and later through her Pennridge High School courses.

As a student of Central, Sarah was a large part of various activities, including Whiffle Ball Club, Volleyball, Yearbook and Orchestra. At the high school level, Sarah was part of the National Honors Society, Future Teachers of America, the Stand Tall Program, the Pennridge Pendulum (school newspaper), and she continued her roles in yearbook and orchestra.

Sarah is a Senior at Drexel University as a Business and Engineering major and a member of the Pennoni Honors College. She has completed multiple co-ops at Thomson Reuters and Comcast NBC Universal Headquarters. She is part of Drexel's Graduate Mechanical Engineering Research group where she is competing in Cornell University's Systems Engineering Competition, presenting at NASA, and Stanford later this year.

Sarah also guided the students through an Airplane Prototype Exercise designed to help students understand the connection between their learning today and future aspirations.

The world needs more STEM students!

What is Stem?

STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. Rather than teach the four disciplines as separate and discrete subjects, STEM integrates them into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications.
