Curriculum

Math: Math is organized into two forty minute periods of time in which students are exposed to grade level standards aligned content, as well as personalized content that is at their level of learning. Students use a consumable Common Core aligned Go Math book; Houghton Mifflin Harcourt publishers. Students supplement their math lessons using resources such as IXL and Khan Academy. Below is listed some of the student friendly "I Can" statements to guide students in their progress.

ELA: English Language Arts is organized into a ninety minute block of time, so that learners have the opportunity to dive heavily into the reading, writing and grammar aspects of English Language Arts. Students are exposed to grade level standards aligned content, as well as personalized content that is at their level of learning. Students currently use the Common Core aligned McGraw-Hill, Wonders series as the foundational resource to guide their learning. In addition the Houghton Mifflin English text is also used to supplement the grammar. Below is listed student friendly " I Can" statements guide our instruction.

Social Studies: The focus of 5th grade Social Studies in American History. Students become critical thinkers using an inquiry based approach to understand their roles and responsibilities as members of a global society. Students explore the historical periods, places, people and movement that led to the development of our nation. Students explain the changing interactions of people, resources, and economic decisions that have shaped who we are as a country. The 5th graders will use problem-solving skills of questioning, examining facts and opinions, analyzing and evaluating sources of information, comparing and contrasting primary and secondary sources and using technology as well as print and electronic media in their understanding of major themes of Social Studies.
