  • Parks and Outdoor Spaces: One way to maintain both mental and physical wellness during this time is to get out around natural settings. While some parks and public gathering spots have been closed, as I write this, the Wissahickon park is still open, with all the usual reminders about social distancing. As things continue to change, I wanted to share two resources. Friends of the Wissahickon will continue to provide COVID-19 Updates and you can find more information on Philadelphia Parks and Recreation here. Getting outside is important for our mental health, but watch the video here and please check openings and closures before venturing out.

  • Journaling and Nature Awareness: We also don't need to travel far to find connections with the natural world around us. Bringing our attention and awareness to small things like trees, insects, fresh air, etc. can do wonders to calming our nervous system and lowering our blood pressure. Here is a 30 day journal exercise from the Biomimicry Institute that will have you engage your senses and awareness each day for better health and wellness.

  • Videos and Podcasts: While not the same as being outside, there are ways we can enjoy listening and viewing outdoor adventures. Two podcasts that I would recommend are the Curious Climber and The Dirtbag Diaries. Ms Noone also shared with me a link to a number of good short outdoor films from Yeti and I would also check out Learn Your Land which are a number of short videos (15-20 min) about local plant and wildlife.

  • REI In Our Nature - Video series that examines the ways in which we are reimagining outdoor spaces and ways we can support and create better access to nature in our lives.
