The Impact of Human Kind on the Environment
Oliver Jeffers Class have been learning about taking care of the world around us. We talked about looking after our planet. The children thought of different ways of doing this:
Turning off lights when we don't need them on.
Turning off taps so not to waste water.
Recycling when we can.
In our maths lessons we have been learning the days of the week. We loved singing the song with Mother Hen.
Here you can see the work from our Wow Writers this week!Â
Every week we will showcase the winners of our weekly writing certificate so you can see the piece of writing they won their award for.

📚World Book Day 📚
This week, the school was transformed into a vibrant literary hub as we celebrated World Book Day! It was fantastic to see such incredible effort, with children arriving as their favourite book characters. We were particularly impressed by the sheer number of creative, home-made costumes — a true testament to the imagination of our families.
A huge congratulations to our "Best Dressed" winners from each class: Nursery - Freddie O
Reception - Isla
Year 1 - Rosie
Year 2 - Oliver
Year 3 - Hannah
Year 4 - Hollie
Year 5 - Chloe
Year 6 Lewis Hamilton Class - Ivy L
Year 6 Kadeena Cox Class - Teddy
The enthusiasm wasn't limited to the pupils; all staff went above and beyond with their costumes to bring stories to life. Centred around the theme of "Reading for Pleasure," our activities focused on the importance of making reading a joyful, lifelong habit. We were also delighted to host parent workshops throughout the day, providing a wonderful opportunity for families to share stories and engage in reading-related activities together.
Hello everyone!
This week in school, we had lots of fun learning some Makaton signs for feelings. Makaton is a special language program that uses signs and symbols alongside talking to help everyone communicate!
Have a look at the signs we learnt below!
Using Makaton signs helps everyone, especially friends who find it harder to talk, to understand and share what they want to say. When we sign and speak at the same time, we're helping our whole school be a great place to communicate!
Ask your child to show you the signs they learnt this week. Practise using them together at home. The more you use Makaton, the easier it becomes!
Happy signing!
Maths in Action Across the School!Â
This week, our pupils have been busy exploring mathematics through practical, hands-on learning across the school. From measuring time and capacity to solving real-life problems and interpreting data, every class has been developing their mathematical understanding in engaging and meaningful ways.
Reception have been learning all about measuring time. The children explored how we can measure time using seconds and minutes by completing fun challenges. They timed how many jumps they could do in 30 seconds and how many different tasks they could complete in one minute. These activities helped them understand how time passes and introduced them to the idea of measuring short periods of time in a fun and active way.
Year 1 have been learning how to estimate numbers on a number line. The children explored where numbers belong by placing them on number lines and thinking carefully about their position between other numbers. Through practical activities and discussion, they practised estimating where numbers should go and explained their reasoning. This helped them develop a stronger understanding of number order, number size and the spaces between numbers, building confidence in their early number sense.
Year 2 have been developing their skills in measurement and problem solving. They have been measuring objects using centimetres (cm) and metres (m) and applying these skills to solve real-life problems. The children worked carefully to measure different items around the classroom and discussed which units of measure were most appropriate.
Year 4 have begun their exciting new unit on fractions. They have been exploring the concept of wholes and parts, learning how a whole can be divided into equal pieces. Through diagrams, practical resources and discussion, pupils are beginning to understand how fractions represent equal parts of a whole.
Year 5 are extending their fraction knowledge by learning how to multiply mixed numbers by an integer (whole number). They are also calculating fractions of quantities, applying their understanding to solve a variety of problems. This work helps pupils develop strong fraction fluency and prepares them for more complex mathematical reasoning.
Year 6 have started their statistics unit, where they are learning how to read and interpret different types of data. Pupils are exploring dual bar charts, pie charts and other data representations, analysing what the information shows and answering questions based on the data. These skills help pupils interpret information critically and apply maths to real-life contexts.
It has been wonderful to see pupils across the school developing their confidence in maths through practical activities, problem solving and discussion. We look forward to seeing their learning continue to grow over the coming weeks!
