Well done to Julia Donaldson class for having the best attendance this week in KS1. In KS2 this week, Rosa Parks class is the winning class so congratulations to them too! It is a shame that our attendance has dipped below 96%, we need to improve this for the end of the term.

What a magnificent week it's been in Year 5! We've fully immersed ourselves in the fascinating world of Ancient Greece and have had so much fun learning about the incredible achievements of this ancient civilization. From their democratic ideas to their legendary myths, it's been a truly enriching journey through history. A particular highlight was exploring the origins of the Olympics, comparing the ancient games with the modern events we see today.
The learning didn't stop there, however, as we also had a fantastic hands-on experience! On Monday, we were thrilled to host a successful parent pottery workshop. It was wonderful to see so many families join us as the children transformed their careful vase designs into real clay creations. The atmosphere was buzzing with collaboration and creativity. This shared workshop was a huge success, and the resulting vases look brilliant.
Now comes the exciting part: we can't wait to add the finishing touches! Next week, the children will be painting their clay vases, bringing their Ancient Greek-inspired artwork to life with colour. Thank you again to all the parents who came along and helped make this such a memorable week.
Here you can see the work from our Wow Writers this week!
Every week we will showcase the winners of our weekly writing certificate so you can see the piece of writing they won their award for.

Macmillan Coffee update
We’re so proud to share that our school community has raised an incredible £277.17 for Macmillan Cancer Research through our recent bake sale.
Thank you to all the families who donated such a wonderful variety of cakes and to everyone who supported the event by making a donation. Children visited the bake sale in their year groups during the day, and we continued after school so that parents could join in too.
A special thank you to our Head Boy, Head Girl and their deputies, who helped to decorate the hall and run the stalls – they did a brilliant job!
This event was a wonderful example of our school community coming together to make a difference, and every penny raised will go towards supporting people living with cancer.
Reading
We ask that parents listen to their child read at home at least three times a week to help build on the reading skills they are learning in school. A reading diary has been provided for you to record any comments about their reading practice and to be signed once your child has read.
It is important that these diaries are brought to school daily, as they are checked by teachers and are also used for reading practice in school. For consistent home reading, your child will be rewarded with a token for our reading book vending machine, where they can choose a new book to keep.
In addition to individual awards, we also have weekly class reading awards. Every Friday, the percentage of children in each Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 class who have read at least three times is calculated, and the winning class is announced in our weekly assembly.
This week's reading scores:
Julia Donaldson Class - 55%
Michael Rosen Class - 38%
Nelson Mandela Class - 50%
Boudicca Class - 57%
Rosa Parks Class - 40%
Lewis Hamilton Class - 67%
Kadeena Cox class - 62%
Congratulations to Julia Donaldson Class and Lewis Hamilton Class, who are the reading winners this week and have been rewarded with some sweet treats.
Banji Alexander Author Visit
What a truly memorable day we had with the incredible author, Banji Alexander! It was a privilege to host him, and his visit left a lasting impression on all of our students. Banji spent time explaining his journey, sharing with the children what originally inspired him to write his books and why he ultimately chose to become an author. His stories about the process were engaging and offered a fantastic insight into the world of writing.
Banji’s passion for reading and writing was absolutely infectious. He spoke with such enthusiasm about the power of stories and the joy of creating your own narratives, which really resonated with the children. We're confident that his visit has lit a new spark of creativity in many of our young learners!
After school, the children had a fantastic opportunity for a photo and book signing with Banji. It was wonderful to see their faces light up as they got to meet the author in person and have their own books signed.
A massive thank you to Banji Alexander for taking the time to visit us and for sharing his inspiring message. We hope this is the first of many visits, and we look forward to seeing the wonderful stories he writes next!
