Year 3
It has been an illuminating week for our Year 3 learners! As we navigate 2026, we have been looking at the inventions that started it all while mastering the science of light.
The classroom turned into a lab of light and shadow! Through torch-lit experiments, students mastered the science of optics, discovering the consistent patterns in how shadows form and change in response to light.
In History and English, we traveled back in time to examine Victorian inventions. The students wrote detailed comparison texts, marvelling at how inventions like the kinetoscope and phonograph, and lightbulbs have paved the way for the smart TVs and AI speakers we use today.
To round out our week, we blended history with creative writing by stepping into the shoes of a lighthouse keeper. Students began drafting bittersweet diary entries, exploring the keeper's emotions as his traditional role is phased out by the arrival of a new automatic light. It has been wonderful to see the children show deep connection to a changing way of life.
We had a fantastic time celebrating NSPCC Number Day at our school, and it was wonderful to see the whole community come together to enjoy maths in a fun, inclusive and meaningful way.
Children across the school took part in a wide range of number-themed activities, designed to build confidence, curiosity and enjoyment in maths. From practical problem-solving and games to creative tasks linking maths with English, art and science, there was something for everyone. Classrooms were buzzing with excitement as pupils explored numbers in imaginative and hands-on ways.
One of the highlights of the day was welcoming parents and carers into classrooms to join in with learning. It was lovely to see families working alongside children, sharing strategies, laughter and enthusiasm- showing that maths really is for everyone.
Children also embraced the spirit of the day by wearing number-themed clothing, from football shirts and patterned outfits to creative designs featuring digits and shapes. The effort and creativity on display were brilliant!
Most importantly, Number Day helped us raise money for the NSPCC, supporting their vital work in keeping children safe. We are incredibly proud of our pupils for showing such kindness, generosity and community spirit.
Thank you to our staff, families and pupils for making Number Day such a success.
To mark Safer Internet Day on Tuesday 10th February, we had a brilliant day of activities led by the team from OpenView Education.
The sessions were tailored for each age group to make sure the message really hit home:
Reception, Year 1, and Year 2: EYFS & Key Stage 1 loved their interactive assemblies. Through storytelling and puppets, they learned the basics of keeping their private information safe in a way that was easy to understand.
Year 3 & Year 4: These year groups were particularly buzzing after learning the "One Good Choice" rap! It’s a catchy way to help them remember that one sensible decision can make a huge difference when they’re gaming or browsing.
Year 5 & Year 6: Our older pupils took part in more advanced workshops. They looked at the tricky side of the internet, including scamming, digital wellbeing, and how to handle online friendships with respect.
What we loved about OpenView’s approach was that it covered the whole picture. It wasn't just about passwords. They focused heavily on anti-bullying and mental wellbeing. The children discussed how to spot bullying behaviour and, importantly, how to look after themselves and their mates while spending time online.
A Huge Shout-out to the PTFA
We are incredibly lucky to have such a supportive community. We want to say a massive thank you to our PTFA, who funded this visit.
It’s fantastic to see that hard-earned fundraising money going directly into teaching the children such vital life skills. We couldn't have done it without you!
Here you can see the work from our Wow Writers this week!
Every week we will showcase the winners of our weekly writing certificate so you can see the piece of writing they won their award for.

Hello everyone!
This week in school, we had lots of fun learning some Makaton signs for sea creatures. Makaton is a special language program that uses signs and symbols alongside talking to help everyone communicate!
Have a look at the signs we learnt below!
Using Makaton signs helps everyone, especially friends who find it harder to talk, to understand and share what they want to say. When we sign and speak at the same time, we're helping our whole school be a great place to communicate!
Ask your child to show you the signs they learnt this week. Practise using them together at home. The more you use Makaton, the easier it becomes!
Happy signing!
