Year 6
This term, our Year 6 historians have taken a step back in time to explore the momentous events of World War I. It has been an immersive journey as the pupils delved into the reality of life in the trenches, discovering the challenges faced by soldiers on the front lines and the resilience they showed.
Beyond the battlefield, the children have been debating why this period is often referred to as "The Great War" - not just for its scale, but for the profound way it changed the course of history forever.
In our writing sessions, the pupils have been applying this knowledge to master the art of formal letter writing. They have been busy planning persuasive and emotive letters addressed to the British Prime Minister. Using formal features and sophisticated vocabulary, they are sharing their insights into the experiences of those who lived through the conflict and the long-lasting impact the war had on society in the years that followed.
Here you can see the work from our Wow Writers this week!
Every week we will showcase the winners of our weekly writing certificate so you can see the piece of writing they won their award for.

Year 4 Multiplication Check- June 2026
It was a pleasure to see so many parents and carers at our Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) afternoon session on Monday 12th of January. We are truly grateful for your engagement and the time you took to learn more about how we are supporting our students with their numeracy skills. Your support is invaluable in helping the children feel confident and prepared for this upcoming milestone.
For those who were unable to attend, the MTC is a digital assessment designed to determine if Year 4 children can fluently recall their multiplication tables up to 12x12. The primary goal is to help schools identify which children may require additional support to master these essential facts. It is important to remember that there is no "pass" rate or threshold, and unlike other screenings, children will not be expected to re-sit the check. The results are used by the Department for Education (DfE) to monitor national performance rather than to rank individual schools or students.
All eligible Year 4 children will participate in the check this year. The assessment will take place during a two-week window starting from Monday, June 2, 2026. There is no set day or time within that window for the check; we have the flexibility to administer it when the children are most ready, and they do not all need to take it at the same time. This helps us keep the environment relaxed and stress-free for the students.
The check itself is fully digital and will feel very familiar to the children, as it is similar to the "Soundcheck" game they play on Times Table Rockstars. Each child will answer 25 randomly assigned multiplication questions, with three practice questions at the start to help them settle in. They will have six seconds to input each answer, with a three-second pause between questions, meaning the entire process usually takes less than five minutes. While all tables up to 12x12 are included, there is often a slight emphasis on the 6, 7, 8, 9, and 12 times tables, as these are typically the most challenging for students.
We encourage you to support your child at home by keeping practice sessions short and fun. Focusing on "known facts" such as knowing that if you know 4 x 5 = 20, then 4 x 6 is just 4 more can build great confidence. Useful resources like Oxford Owl, BBC Super Movers, and online MTC simulators are excellent tools to help them prepare. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to your child's class teacher, who will be happy to help. See below for some more useful links:
Hello everyone!
This week in school, we had lots of fun learning some Makaton signs for animals. Makaton is a special language program that uses signs and symbols alongside talking to help everyone communicate!
Command signs are really useful because they tell us to do something. Have a look at the signs we learnt below!
Using Makaton signs helps everyone, especially friends who find it harder to talk, to understand and share what they want to say. When we sign and speak at the same time, we're helping our whole school be a great place to communicate!
Ask your child to show you the signs they learnt this week. Practice using them together at home. The more you use Makaton, the easier it becomes!
Happy signing!
SEND
As we move further into the school year, we want to share an update on the dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) support available to our pupils. Our goal is to ensure every child has the tools they need to succeed, which is why we continue to run a variety of targeted interventions. These include social skills groups to foster teamwork and emotional resilience, intensive phonics catch-up sessions, and bespoke individual support tailored to specific learning milestones. We are proud of the progress our students are making through these focused programs.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s progress or additional needs, our doors are always open. Please feel free to catch your child’s class teacher for an informal chat, or schedule a more formal meeting with our SENCO to discuss specific strategies and support plans. We value your input and aim to work closely with you to ensure your child feels confident and supported in the classroom.
For families seeking independent guidance, we highly recommend the Medway SENDIAS service. They provide free, impartial, and confidential information and advice to parents and carers. Whether you need help understanding SEND law, preparing for meetings, or navigating the EHCP process, their team is there to ensure your family feels informed and empowered. You can find more details on their services through the Medway Council website.
