Weekly Updates
I hope everyone had a great long weekend! Here are your updates for the week!
Announcements
Curriculum Night: Thank you to those who could attend Curriculum Night last Thursday. I am attaching a link to the presentation if you wish to review it. A copy of your student's Student Led Conference sheet will go home in their folder tomorrow.
Curriculum Night Presentation
SplashMath: Parent letters for SplashLearn home access will go home in your child's orange folder tomorrow. SplashLearn is a great resource for students to use to practice math skills taught in class as well as multiplication and division facts.
Winter Benchmarks:
mClass: Your child will take the reading diagnostic assessment in mClass during the testing window of January 17-23. All K-5 students will take this reading assessment. The test is not graded. The purpose of this test is to identify learning needs for basic reading skills and monitor growth in these areas. Please let me know if you have any questions.
NC Check-in: Your child will be taking his/her NC Check-Ins soon. Check-Ins are interim assessments developed by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). They are aligned to NC grade-level content standards in English language arts/reading and mathematics for grades 3–8, and science for grade 5. In ELA, each NC Check-In measures all grade level content standards assessed and increases in text complexity. For mathematics and science, each NC Check-In focuses on a selected subset of grade-level content standards. The main purpose of NC Check-Ins is to provide students, teachers, and parents with immediate in-depth action data and a reliable estimate of students’ current performance on the selected subset of content standards. A secondary purpose of NC Check-Ins is derived from their strong relationship with grade-level end-of-grade (EOG) summative assessment. These benchmark assessments will not be used for classroom grades however Individual Student Reports (ISRs) will be posted on the Parent Portal in PowerSchool.
The NC Check-Ins administration windows are as follows:
Science (5th only): January 26
Math (3rd-5th): January 31
Reading (3rd-5th): February 2
Incomplete Work: I will be sending home any incomplete work from the week prior with your child on Wednesdays. This work must be completed for homework and returned on Friday each week to ensure your child receives full credit for their work. Please talk to your child about using their time wisely during independent rotations.
