As we approach the end of the school year, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all staff, families and the pupils themselves for your continued efforts and commitment to the school. It has been a hugely successful and enjoyable year to date and within this June newsletter, we celebrate lots of the most recent activities and initiatives.
I'd also like to signpost you towards our transition arrangements and a detailed list of dates for the diary including the confirmed Inset days for the start of the next academic year. It is an extremely busy time of year and I hope you find this section a useful reference point.
We recognise that transition to new classes / schools can be a very anxious time for children. If you feel your child requires extra support with this, please reach out to us.
Many thanks for your continued support and cooperation.
Mr Raymond
Regular attendance at school is a priority which will in turn provide pupils with the best possible chances in life to succeed and to achieve their goals. Punctuality is also a legal requirement and pupils must attend on time. Persistent lateness has a detrimental effect on a child’s learning and also disrupts other pupils within the class and throughout the school.
We have seen a real increase in lates recently. Please be reminded that if a child arrives after 9:00, and therefore enters through the main office, a late slip must be completed. This is due to safeguarding reasons - we need to have accurate records of which children are on-site at all times. Please do not allow children to enter the building via the main office without a member of staff being aware and a late slip being handed in.
You may have seen our EWO, Judith Wilkins, at drop off time in recent days. Judith has been monitoring punctuality and speaking to families for whom regular lateness remains a concern.
Many thanks for your continued support and cooperation with this vital aspect of school life.

We wish Mrs Bishop all the best as she starts her maternity leave, and hope she has plenty of rest before 'Baby Bishop' arrives.
We are also excited to welcome back Mrs Malone from her maternity leave. Mrs Malone will be in Mrs Bishop's class until the end of the summer term.
Reception went on a fantastic trip to Cefn Mably Fun Farm to begin their topic of 'The Great Big Picnic'. The children really enjoyed bringing their own picnics and eating them with their adults and friends. Since the trip, we have planned more mini picnics around the school grounds including different picnic food items.
After the original date was 'rained' off, it was great to get 'Sports Day' underway for our older pupils from year 3 to 6. Middle School pupils enjoyed participating in a carousel of activities, and Upper School pupils returned to a more traditional 'Sports Day' format. It was fantastic to see the enthusiasm and team spirit across the age groups. A big shout out to the staff for their efforts in organising these events, and a huge thank you to the spectators, who not only cheered on the pupils, but also helped to boost school funds by purchasing refreshments.
It was a pleasure to host 20 visitors to our annual careers day on Thursday 19th June. Comprising mostly of parents and carers across our school community, children from years 3-6 had the opportunitity to speak to a range of professionals including an archaeologist, air ambulance doctor and forensic scientist!
A huge thank you to everybody who gave up their time and contributed to the success of the day.
Pupils in Year 2 and Year 5 enjoyed a visit from South Wales Fire Service. The fire fighters explained the importance of fire safety and keeping safe. Congratulations to one of the year 5 pupils who beat Miss Abell in the firefighter clothing race.
Little Stars’ pupils, parents and staff all had a fun time exploring Cefn Mably Farm, playing on the slides and riding the train together. What a lovely day, making beautiful memories!
Nursery pupils have been tasting strawberries from their garden and making a lemonade stand in the home corner. It looks like lots of fun!
Our PARCH group has been established this term. A huge well done and thank you to our Y5 pupils - Maggie, Hattie, Isla, Ava, Ioan, Harrison, Aurora and Brooke - who have been selected for this important role. This group will be strengthening our work as an anti-racist school and helping to spread important messages about challenging racism.
If any parents/carers would like to provide feedback about our anti-racism work/approaches we would love to hear from you. Your voices are really important and will help to shape our curriculum and improve our processes and procedures. Please complete this short form: https://forms.gle/eenE4DfNmMTqG3oaA
Some of our footballers took part in a tournament at Coety Primary this month. Our team finished 3rd out of 24 teams in the group stages, and then sadly lost narrowly in the quarter finals. A great team spirit shown by all!
Pupils from year 3-6 took part in a swimming gala, competing against five other schools. The group returned with 26 medals between 16 children, which resulted in second place overall. Mr Hopkins was impressed with the impeccable behaviour.
Dolau Primary came to visit recently for our first cricket fixture this year. We won one game by 57 runs and lost one game by 14. Thank you to Mr Hopkins for his efforts in coordinating the matches.
Miya in Reception took part in a sponsored walk in Cosmeston Lakes to raise awareness and money for diabetes. She raised an incredible £545! We are all very proud of her!
Congratulations to Taylor in year 6, who recently was awarded first place in all her events during a gymnastics competition. A superb effort!
Congratulations to Elis in year 3 who took part in an event at Beaufort Hunt Pony Club in Gloucester. Elis and his pony William represented his local pony club, Llangeinor, to win the 40cm section. Da iawn!
