As we approach the end of the school year, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all staff, families and the pupils themselves for your continued efforts and commitment to the school. It has been a hugely successful and enjoyable year to date and within this June newsletter, we celebrate lots of the most recent activities and initiatives.
I'd also like to signpost you towards a reminder of our second summer festival on Friday 14th July from 3.30pm. This will be another great community event with a wide range of stalls, activities and music to enjoy. Please also see important information regarding our transition arrangements and a detailed list of dates for the diary.
Many thanks for your continued support and cooperation
Mr Raymond
Our school is committed to ensure regular attendance at school is a priority which will in turn provide pupils with the best possible chances in life to succeed and to achieve their goals.
Punctuality is also a legal requirement and pupils must attend on time. Persistent lateness has a detrimental effect on a child’s learning and also disrupts other pupils within the class and throughout the school.
Can parents and carers please ensure that:
All pupils arrive by 9am to start the school day promptly.
Pupils remain in school for the full day - early collections will only be authorised in exceptional circumstances.
The school office is contacted on the first day of absence and a reason is provided for your child’s absence. This is recorded by the Attendance Clerk on Sims.
If a pupil arrives after 9am, parents must sign the "late book" and must enter through the main doors of the school. This is monitored on a regular basis and recorded by the Attendance Clerk. Those parents who are consistently late will be contacted by the Attendance Clerk in the first instance and then the school will coordinate with the Educational Welfare Officer to decide on the appropriate action.
All requests for holidays must be completed on the schools holiday request form and completed by parents/carers. A decision on whether to authorise the request is dependent on the following contributory factors:
Time of year.
Length of time.
Overall percentage of attendance.
Reasons for any absence.
Impact on the child’s learning.
Many thanks for your continued support and cooperation with this vital aspect of school life.
You are all invited to our second summer festival on:
Friday 14th July 3.30-6.30 pm
Entry is free and there will be lots of lovely activities for you and your family to enjoy, including performances by our school community, workshops led by members of the community and an array of local stall holders selling food, crafts and lots more!
Weather permitting, all activities will take place outdoors.
A huge thank you to those of you who have already donated raffle prizes and items for our tombola stall!
We are delighted to welcome Mrs Williams and Mr Ridd as two new parent governors. Both Amy and James possess significant and wide ranging educational experience and will add real value to the Governing Body. We hope you enjoy your term.

It was a pleasure to welcome hundreds of parents and carers to our LKS2 and UKS2 sports days on Friday 16th June. The sun shone and all of the children displayed fantastic effort and team spirit throughout their range of activities and races.
UFP have been enjoying exploring the work of different artists, including Vincent Van Gogh and Pablo Picasso. Pupils have impressed staff when producing their own interpretations of famous paintings including Van Gogh's 'Sunflowers'. Some future artists in the making!
The school basketball squad recently travelled to Maes Yr Haul Primary for some competitive fixtures. The pupils have really enjoyed their basketball experiences this year.
The PPS cricket club had a lovely evening at Sophia Gardens last Wednesday evening watching Glamorgan CC. Mr Raymond, Mr Hopkins and Mr Watkins were proud of the children's behaviour throughout the evening.
It has been fantastic to see so many pupils walking and riding to school during the dry weather. Our Walking Bus initiative and 'Bike/Scooter Park' got a special mention in the Senedd recently! Da iawn pawb!
Polite reminder - please remind your child not to ride their bike or scooter on the yard. Thank you.
Pencoed library visited our assembly to tell the pupils all about this year's reading challenge. The launch day takes place at Newbridge Fields, Bridgend between 12-3pm on the 8th July. Pupils can sign up after this date by visiting the library. It would be great to see lots of our pupils involved in this fantastic project!
Congratulations to Mr Raymond, who was named 'Man of the Match' after a recent game against Man Utd Legends! Sadly, his team didn't win but he did manage to score a goal!
Our Year 6 pupils were most excited to receive their leavers hoodies, and they all suddenly looked very grown up! It is hard to believe that they will be leaving us in just a few weeks! Year 6 parents and carers are invited to attend the leavers assembly, which will take place in the school hall on Thursday 20th July at 9.15am. (2 guests per pupil)
A special shout out to two impressive brothers - Cohen and Reeve, for completing a charity walk on behalf of their baby sister Larayah - who was born partially deaf. They signed up to do 50K in May and raised a fantastic £880! This awesome pair actually managed to walk 65.20K in the end. They also managed to raise some funds for May for Moose too, bringing their fundraising total to £894.50! A superb effort from such young pupils; Reeve in Reception and Cohen in Year 1!
Dylan recently competed in the Trampoline Club Series Championships 2023 in Cardiff and took first place in both trampoline and the double mini trampoline for his age group - Da iawn Dylan!
Congratulations to Max in Year 1 who was recently voted 'Players' Player' at his rugby club! What a special recognition!
Aled and Ellis walked six and a half miles with mum and her colleagues for a very special and important charity. What a fantastic effort for such a worthy cause - Well done boys!
Congratulations to Jack in Year 5 who recently won his Junior Welsh league race, achieving a new PB too! Jack remains undefeated in the U11s category since February! What an achievement!
Families enjoyed cooking pizza in their final forest school session recently. It has been a very successful programme enabling families in similar situations to meet each other, build friendships and support each other.
