WELCOME FIRST GRADE PARENTS AND STUDENTS
I would like to extend a warm welcome to all the first grade families. I am looking forward to an exciting year full of learning, growth, and blessings.
First grade is a great year to further the student's development in Phonics, Reading, Writing, Math, Spelling, and growth with God.
I have included some information about First Grade Classes and Procedures that I trust will be helpful.
COMMUNICATION-I can be reached this year at theansser@penbaychristian.org with any concerns or questions that you have. I will be able to answer your emails after school as our class day is full of learning and growing. I am also available after school, if you would like to meet in person as well. If there is an emergency, you can always reach out to the office and the information will be passed along to me.
FIRST GRADE WEBSITE-Please check out the First Grade Website frequently. There is a lot of helpful information about first grade and the website does get updated each week.
TAKE HOME FOLDER-Please check your child's backpack daily for the take home folder. Corrected papers will be in there. The folder is returned to the classroom each day. If the student does not have any papers to come home (mail) then the folder will not go home.
SNACK/LUNCH-Please send enough food and drink for 2 snacks and a lunch.
A water bottle, cup (water is available ), or a different drink from home will be needed for lunchtime as cups will not be provided this year. The lunchroom will not be supplying utensils or plates as well.
There are microwaves for the students to use if they have an item that is microwavable. The first graders will be microwaving their own food this year.
BIBLE VERSES-During the year, we will be memorizing many Bible verses. The verse will be on the First Grade Website. Practicing at home will be needed and appreciated. I will let you know when we start working on Bible verses.
SPELLING-Each week your child will have a new list of Spelling words to learn for the week. The list will be on the First Grade Website. Wednesday is the pretest and Friday is the final test. If your child receives 100 on the pretest words, then the child does not have to take the final on Friday. The children will also have to write a sentence-English Class- (that I will say to them) that uses one of the Spelling words for the week. Correct capitalization and uppercase/lowercase count for Spelling. Please help your child with the Spelling words each week. I will let you know when we start Spelling.
READING-There will be reading homework on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The student will read to an adult the same story that the student read in class for reinforcement. The adult will initial beside the date indicating that the child has orally read the story to an adult. The Reading book is then brought back to the class the next day. I will let you know when we start Reading homework.
SHOW AND TELL-The student can bring 1 item to school to share, through discussion, with their classmates. If a student forgets to bring the show and tell, it can be brought the next day. The Weekly Schedule on the First Grade Website will list who has show and tell.
CHANGE OF CLOTHING-A change of clothing can be kept in your child's backpack in case there is a need.
BIRTHDAYS-If your child is having a birthday, you are more than welcome to send in a special edible treat to share with all the students. We do have students that can not have dairy, gluten, or mollusks.
PRAYER-As we begin this new school year, please pray for the first graders as they start their new adventure in first grade. I would also love to pray with or for anyone during the school year if you have a request or just need prayer.
QUESTIONS-If you have questions, please let me know.
Have a blessed year!
In Christ,
Mrs. Heanssler
