ELL

English Language (EL) students in SAU 48 consist of immigrant children from other countries where English is not the primary or official language; students who, although born in the United States, come from non-English language background families and whose English proficiency is not sufficient for achievement in the standard curriculum classroom; and children who have been adopted into English-speaking homes and have rapidly lost their native languages. The acquisition of English takes time and progresses at different rates for students based on their exposure to English, their literacy in their dominant language, and their age. The ELL program is designed to help these particular students achieve success both inside and outside the classroom.

The school districts of SAU 48 provide ELL services to students who have limited English proficiency in accordance with the State of NH requirements and in compliance with the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Equal Education Act of 1974.
