RUMNEY RANGERS

A Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center

Russell Elementary School is very excited to announce the award of the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center grant.  This means that Rumney Rangers will continue to be funded by this federal program and will be able to provide quality academic support and hands-on enrichment opportunities to the students of RES. The goal of the 21st CCLC program is to raise student academic achievement through the creation and expansion of community learning centers that provide students with academic enrichment opportunities as well as additional activities designed to complement their regular academic program.

WELCOME TO RANGERS

I'm Lauren Sherburne and I have been working with Rangers for a year but have been in the school throughout the years in various positions!

I'm very excited to be able to work with so many of the RES students during Rangers and carry on the legacy Mrs. Grass has created.  Rangers programs give students the opportunity to get academic support and be involved in hands-on enrichment opportunities.

Rumney Rangers has new, fun activities planned for the 2023-2024 school year.  Check us out below as the enrichment activities will be updated weekly throughout the school year.

****In addition to information about Rangers below, there are also websites and activities for students and families to do if you need some suggestions.  Try out the activities on your own

Students in 3-4 have collaborated together to express what they would like to do on each day. Below are the themes and what it will consist of.

THE FALLEN LOG

This Project Learning Tree activity will have you observing trees outdoors.

It’s amazing how many things live in and on rotting logs.

In this activity, kids become familiar with some of those organisms by observing fallen logs.

They’ll gain an understanding of how decomposition takes place and a better appreciation for micro-habitats and communities.
