Course Title: Physical Education
Length of Course: One Semester, Half Year worth 0.5 Credit

Course Description: A major purpose of physical education is to prepare individuals to be active, healthy, intelligent, and responsible participants in society. The school curriculum should provide for each pupil the opportunities needed for growth and development (physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially) to the full extent of the individual’s potential abilities.

Units and Topics Covered: Tennis, street hockey, soccer, recreational games, fitness, walking/jogging, badminton, basketball, weight training, volleyball, ultimate Frisbee, disc golf, pickleball, pillo polo
Skills: Students will acquire basic skills to participate in a wide variety of leisure activities.
Students will develop sufficient knowledge and ability to independently acquire new skills.
Writing: Worksheets, quizzes, and exam
Assessments: Teacher generated written exams and quizzes. Group discussions, participation, and skills analysis are all used as methods of assessment.
At the end of this course, students will be prepared for: Participation in any lifelong activity and will have the knowledge, and understanding of many activities recreationally as well as organized.

Class Expectations:

Absences/Make-up: If you are absent from class and would like to earn the full amount of points possible you can do so in one of three ways:
Participate in another physical education class during study hall/free time with the PE prior approval.
Work-out after school and have it verified by the weight room supervisor (Sport practices or games do not count).
Type a one-page, double spaced, 12 font, article summary of a topic related to fitness, health, or wellness. Articles can be from online sources and printed off, i.e. USA Today, New York Times, etc. Please be sure to attach the article. Documents can be sent via email.
A few things to keep in mind:
Be sure to bring a change of clothes for class. That means sneakers, shorts, t-shirt, and pants and a sweatshirt for when it gets colder. Clothing should be laundered after use.
The use of cell phones is prohibited in the locker rooms. Any student seen using a phone will be disciplined according to the student handbook policy.
The lockers in the locker rooms are not to be used as a regular locker. Do not store your textbooks, binders, or other classroom supplies in there. The lockers are for physical education and athletic gear only and all personal belongings should be taken home daily.
Any valuable items should be left at home. Items may be kept in PE offices if you are concerned about an item during class. Keep in mind the school is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Students are encouraged to wash hands before and after class as well as hand sanitizer.
