Welcome

Welcome to Kindergarten!  I am so excited to have your child in class this year. My name is Kelly Masiello. I have been teaching for 25 years.  I live in Pelham with my husband David and 26 year old son Zachary.  My daughter Makenzie is 28, lives in R.I and teaches 4th grade.

I will do everything to make this an amazing experience for your child. Kindergarten is an exciting, yet scary time for students. It is a time for exploring so many new things and places and a time to learn. I understand it is difficult to leave your child in the care of someone else, but I am here to help your child grow and have fun!  I am excited to build a relationship with your child and all of you.

This year, we will be learning letters, sounds and learning to read!  We learn about our community and the world around us.  We will learn to cut, paste, draw and color. We will learn how to be a student and a good classmate.  We will learn to be respectful, responsible and safe. And so, so, much more!  Kindergarten is a time to explore and use many different types of materials.  Don’t be surprised if your child comes home messier than they came to school ! I believe being messy is a sign of learning and having fun.

I set high expectations for each and every student in my classroom because I KNOW every child can succeed. I hope you will help by taking the time to talk to your child each day about what we did at school and what we learned. Talk to your child about rules, and how important it is to follow them and work hard.

I ask that you read to your child every day and give them plenty of time for play.  Practice sight words, letters, sounds and counting.  All of this combines to give your child a great education. Together we are a team!  Please make sure your child gets lots of sleep every night. We work hard in class and need lots of energy.

Please work with your child on how to tie their shoes, zipper their jackets, dress after the use of bathroom, blow their nose and open food containers. This will make their transtion more seamless.   WE ARE A NUT FREE CLASSROOM. PLEASE BE SURE TO CAREFULLY READ AND SIGN THE NEWSLETTER THAT WILL BE GOING HOME AT MEET AND GREET.

You can contact me anytime at kmasiello@pelhamsd.org.  Your child’s education is a team effort and I am looking forward to working with you and your child for a great year in kindergarten!
