Welcome

Welcome to kindergarten!

I am so excited to have your child in class this year. My name is Shawna Lacasse. I live in Nashua with my husband Jason, daughter Hayden and dog Nestle.

Every year my goal is to make this an amazing experience for your child. Kindergarten is an exciting, yet scary time for students and parents alike! Being in the classroom for the first time is full of exploring so many new things and places plus a time to learn. I understand sending your child to "big kid" school can be nerve racking but I can assure you I am here to not only help them learn, grow and have fun but also care for them!

This year, we will be learning letters, sounds and beginning to read!  Through our science and social studies lessons we learn about our community and the world around us. Our fine motor skills will be practiced and strengthened through cutting, pasting, drawing and coloring. Learning is important and I also find equal importance in forming a community so your child will be working on how to be a student and a classmate to their peers.  We will learn to be respectful, responsible, safe and so, much more! Kindergarten is messy so don’t be surprised if your child comes home messier than they came to school ! I believe being messy is a sign of learning and having fun.

I set high expectations for each and every student in my classroom because I KNOW every child can succeed in their own way. I hope you will help bridge school and home by taking the time to talk to your child each day about what we did at school and what we learned. Reviewing classroom rules with your child is important and can help with reinforcing the how critical it is to follow them.

The best way to help your child improve their language skills is read to your child every day. It is found that children learn best through play so allow them plenty of time to do so will be beneficial! as always there are the typical skills to practice with your child such as sight words, letters, sounds and counting.  All of this combines to give your child a great education. Together we are a team!  Kindergarten takes lots of energy so please make sure they get plenty of sleep!
