Speech Team AudItions!!!

We will have auditions for the Speech Team this coming September 16th (Tuesday) and 18th (Thursday) after school in room G206 (Mr. Pyle's room). All students are welcome, whether you have experience or not! Forms and additional info can be found directly below. Please come see Mr. Pyle if you have any questions at all!

2024/2025 Speech Season

National Results!!!

The S'Pekin Dragons competed at the National Speech & Debate Association this past June in Des Moines, Iowa and ALL FOUR of our students advanced to an elimination round, making it a successful "team break!" The results from the week were:

International Extemporaneous Speaking - placed in the top 30 out of 272 competitors (Quarter-Finalist,15 in the nation overall)!

Congressional Debate - placed in the top 144 out of 443 competitors! (Quarter-Finalist!)

Poetry Reading - placed in the top 60 out of 419 competitors!

Prose Reading - placed in the top 120 out of 437 competitors!

ALINA VANG WINS STATE!!!!!

Alina Vang advanced to the IHSA state final rounds of both Original Oratory and Extemporaneous Speaking. She placed 3rd in OO and WON the state title in Extemp!!! This is the first time in 28 years that the S'Pekin Dragons have won an individual state championship!

The S'PEKIN DRAGONS PLACE 2ND AT REGIONALS!!!

The S'Pekin Dragons had EIGHT Regional champions, advancing 13 events to Sectionals!

The S'PEKIN DRAGONS PLACE 2ND AT SECTIONALS!!!

The S'Pekin Dragons had THREE Sectional champions, advancing 8 events to State!

The S'PEKIN DRAGONS WIN THE MID ILLINI CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT!!!

The S'Pekin Dragons had NINE conference champions, winning the Mid-Illini conference tournament for the second year in a row!

National Results!!!

The S'Pekin Dragons competed at the National Speech & Debate Association this past June in Des Moines, Iowa and had a GREAT experience! Five of our students advanced one or more of their speech events to the elimination rounds. The results from the week were:

National Qualifiers!!!

The S'Pekin Dragons competed at the Greater Illinois District National Qualifier on March 1st & 2nd and had three students outright qualify: Sophia Vansaghi, Alina Vang, and Marshal Allen Pruitt. Nationals will be held this summer in Des Moines, Iowa June 17-21.

State Finalist!!!

The S'Pekin Dragons competed at the IHSA State Tournament on February 16th & 17th and junior Alina Vang advanced into the State Final round of Original Oratory! She placed 5th overall. Congrats to Alina and all our State qualifiers!

The S'Pekin Dragons had eight students qualify to the IHSA State Tournament!

Pekin Wins Sectionals!

For the first time since 2015, the S'Pekin Dragons have won the IHSA Sectional Tournament! We also had FOUR individual Sectional Champs!

Pekin Wins Regionals!

The S'Pekin Dragons won the IHSA Regional Tournament! We also had FIVE individual Regional Champs!

4 finalists, 2 Next-In, & 6 semifinalists at DGS!
