Pekin Community School District's schools have served our students and families for over 50 years. Now it's time to make sure they're ready for the next 50 years. This November, Pekin CSD is asking the community to consider the responsible, community-developed plan to address safety upgrades, aging infrastructure, and long-overdue classroom improvements.
Pekin has always taken care of its own.

Elementary Building
Built in 1978
Our elementary school was built in 1978 and has never undergone a comprehensive renovation. Major building systems are at an age where repairs become increasingly difficult and very costly.
Portions of our Junior/Senior High School require safety and infrastructure improvements, including secure entry upgrades, fire alarm updates, and replacement of aging classroom flooring.

Safety & Security Upgrades
Permanent, fire-rated walls with lockable classroom doors & corridors
Secure entry to direct visitors through the office before entering the building.
Parking lot light fixtures to improve night-time visibility.
Facility-wide fire alarm upgrade to bring system up to current building code.

Infrastructure Upgrades
Upgrade/replace HVAC system, aged piping & aged electrical service and distribution.
Asphalt playground lot reconstruction.
Replace asbestoes flooring & expand electrical outlets in HS classrooms.
Replace aged windows on north side of 1960 building.
Asscessibility (ADA) upgrades to stage & proformaing arts storgage upgrades.

Building Additions
Classroom addition to support increased special education demand from elementary.
Multi-purpose room addition to support multipled functions: MS/HS lunch, pre-function lobby performing arts, and other programming.

A LOW TAX RATE IMPACT
A projected tax rate impact is approximately $0.40 per $1,000 of taxable property value.
The district is committed to keeping the property tax impact as possible and is contributing approximately 28% of the project cost to help achieve that goal.
It is more cost-effective to take care of our buildings now than to defer the work and pay more late.
Every year these needs go unaddressed, construction costs rise, acting now is the financially responsible choice for the district and for taxpayers.
