This folder will host videos made by the STEM Coordinator to introduce and model various manipulatives and tools that are available to teachers. This folder will host videos made by the STEM Coordinator to introduce and model various manipulatives and tools available to teachers.
Gizmos are interactive math and science simulations for grades 3-12. There are over 400 simulations that are aligned to various standards. The Gizmos are tied to Virginia Standards. There is both a free and a paid subscription. Some of the math topics include whole numbers, decimals, fractions, percent and basics addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, graphing, patterns, equations, and probability. Some of the science topics include properties of matter, motion and force, gravity, energy, simple machines, waves, sounds, lights, electricity, magnetism, cells, plants, ecosystems, genetics and measurement skills.
GoOpenVA is an Open Licensed lesson database. Open Licensed means that many of the lessons are unhampered by copyright limitations. Teachers can create, share, and use digital resources with the end goal of providing equity in lessons.
Open Educational Resources, OER, is a public digital library of free resources. OER covers all content areas and all grades. This site is not aligned with SOL standards so when using this site, please ensure that the materials you utilize align with SOL standards.
phEt is a collection of simulations through the University of Colorado Boulder. The simulations are free and cover the areas of physics (buoyancy, forces and motion, states of matter, friction, waves), chemistry (acid-base solutions, balancing chemical equations, static electricity, energy forms, pH scale, Greenhouse Effect), math (area models, equality, estimation, fractions, graphing lines and quadratics, number lines, vectors), earth science (diffusion, gases, pressure, sound, wave), biology (neurons, eating and exercise, genes, color vision, stretching DNA), and prototypes (circuit construction AC, collision, density, energy skate park).
Virtual Virginia offers online courses, digital content, and professional development opportunities to schools, students, and educators throughout the Commonwealth.

Math Resources

Desmos Math Manipulatives is a collection of online manipulatives, including time, angles, fractions, percentages, and probability. This site is open to all without a username or password.
Didax Math Online Manipulatives is a collection of virtual manipulatives. The site covers unifix cubes, number lines, fraction tiles, math balance, dice, spinners, Pattern Blocks, Geoboards, prime factor tiles, and algebra tiles.
Just In Time Math Checks were created by the Virginia Department of Education. These formative assessments are aligned to the 2016 mathematics standards, help identify students with unfinished learning and assist in planning instruction to fill potential gaps. Math topics from Kindergarten through Algebra II are included on this site.
Math Playground has games and videos that cover topics from kindergarten through sixth grade math. Topics include basic addition/subtraction/multiplication/division, fractions, decimals, shapes, graphs, and algebra.

Science Resources

This Google Sheet connects all STEM Resources to the SOL the resource can help teach. Please note that both the SOL and the Essential Knowledge are on the sheet. This sheet will be updated as more resources are obtained or located online.
Generation Genius incorporates videos and labs into a variety of science lessons. Teachers will need a username and password to access the site. This information can be retrieved by contacting the STEM Coordinator. If students with unfinished learning and assist in planning instruction to fill potential gaps. Math topics from Kindergarten through Algebra II are included on this site.
Kesler Science is a science website primarily for middle school science. However, the site can be utilized for remedial lessons for high school students. Kesler Science includes 5 E lessons, virtual labs, escape rooms, and a variety of science labs. Kesler Science is aligned to the 2018 VDOE science standards.
Mystery Science is primarily for K-5th grade students. Mystery Science works through investigative science, where each topic is tied to a question. The lessons include literacy for each section and science labs. Mystery Science is aligned to the 2018 VDOE science standards.
This document will host all science resources, which will eventually be linked to each resource's SOL's. This document is a work in progress and will take time to complete.
