Salem Activities (optional)
Welcome to all that is Salem, Oregon! Not only is it home to our state capitol but it is also an enriching, cultural hub with many things to see, explore and do! If you find yourself with energy for more after our scheduled events on May 16, below is a list of places to check out on your own or as a group! These activities are optional, so please take time for yourself if needed.
Did you know that Salem is home to the longest connected network of pathways in the United States? It's even longer than pathways of Central Park! If you're looking to talk a stroll, stretch your legs and see some of Salem's beautiful green space, head on down to Riverfront Park and hop onto the bike path. You can either make a loop around the park, head across the old railroad bridge to Wallace Marine Park or head across the Taco Bridge into Minto Brown Island Park. Bring a light source as the sun will be going down around 8pm.
Local Salem Attractions (click on the location name to visit their websites)
Xicha Brewing: Located across the river in West Salem, Xicha's is a latino owned family brewery with great outdoor seating, incredible food and a variety of their own craft beer on tap. Definitely try one of their margaritas and the nachos plate if you choose to visit! Open until 9pm.
Gilgamesh Brewing: Gilgamesh is a local brewery that now has three locations. Their main space, The Campus, has 2.5 acres, a full restaurant and patio adjacent to Pringle Creek, and a variety of beers on tap. Open until 10pm.
Santiam Brewing: Slightly outside of downtown, Santiam Brewing is home to 15 craft beers and ciders on tap, as well as a British Pub and Restaurant. They have a heated outdoor patio and host events weekly. Open until 9pm.
Kraftworks: If you are looking for something close to the hotel that is open late and serves almost everything you could think of, Kraftworks might be for you. A little on the eclectic side, you'll be able to find something interesting to try here. They also serve food. Open until 11pm.
Archive: Established by local Salemites, Archive creates an atmosphere that turns your entire visit into an experience. The servers are friendly and passionate about their work and their menu is full of fascinating new things, created right in house! A coffee shop by day and a bar by night, this classy establishment holds a low key vibe with both indoor and outdoor seating. Open until 9pm.
Taproot: Also owned by someone born and raised in Salem, Taproot provides a energetic, yet cozy, environment. They serve food, have a variety of drinks from juices, house made sodas, smoothies, tea, cocktails and beer. They host weekly events and the servers are friendly. They have two locations. Things to try are the flash fried brussel sprouts, the poutine and the "Davocados." Open until 2am.

You can go to watch and cheer others on at their attempts to remember the steps, or jump right in and learn as you go! There is a bar where food and drinks can be bought, but most of the time, dancers are sober. If you're looking for a super fun and unexpected Salem experience, the Silver Spur might be what you're looking for. Open until 11pm.
