We are a group of scientist, based in Portland OR, focused on discovering and developing new chemical reactions and understanding their mechanisms. Our primary interest is in the development of main group arylation reagents based on iodonium and sulfonium centers and this focus is motivated by the prevalence of aromatic rings in societally important molecules such as drugs, agrochemicals and functional materials. We use iodine(III) to mediate ligand coupling reactions and both iodine(III) and sulfur(IV) to access aryne reactive intermediates. We probe the thermodynamic and kinetic regimes of reactions via supramolecular phenomena, kinetics and computational chemistry.
