Speech Clinic Supervisor: Cassie Quinn, M.S., CCC-SLP, BCS-S
Course Description: Student clinicians work with adults with disorders of speech, language, fluency, cognition, voice and/or swallowing disorders, within simulations. Students also gain experience with screening of patients across all domains; group discussions of patients, communication skills training, documentation training, clinical techniques and principles.
Students will learn the following skills that can be added to your CV:
*Engage in assessment and treatment of adult medically complex simulated clients.
*Complete medical chart reviews.
*Identify medications that may pose barriers to therapy.
*Identify appropriate collaborators for team based treatment approach.
*Assess clients with varying diagnoses: TBI, CVA, H&N CA, PD, and PPA.
*Administer various assessments: CLQT+, WAB, ABA, CSE, OME.
*Become familiar with MBSS and CT imaging.
*Hone daily documentation skills including daily notes and initial evaluations.
*Engage in case debriefs to strengthen critical thinking and clinical decision making process.

Assignments:
Chart Review Document : Complete a chart review on each case. Submit final doc to their google folder.
Medication & Med Dx Contraindications: Complete a deep dive into the medical history and medication use of each case study. Understand the interplay of medications and diagnosis and their effect on our role in speech, language, cognition and swallowing. You will complete this on your chart review sheet.
Goal Writing: Complete comprehensive ST and LT goals for each of the case studies completed. You can complete this on your Chart Review Sheet. Refer to "Goal Writing" section below for guidance.
Therapy Tasks: Determine therapy tasks for each of your goals. Refer to the "Therapy Materials" section below for guidance. You can complete this on your Chart Review Sheet.
Daily Notes: Write a daily note for each case you complete. You can complete this on your Chart Review Sheet. Refer to "Documentation Section" below for guidance.
SimuCase Summary Reports: Please submit your competency reports to their google folder.
