Suggested Dress Code for internships

From the COE: Suggested dress code for Internship is “Smart Casual”.  Smart casual is the compromise between business casual and completely casual. The key to this is taking a “casual” look and dressing it up, so it looks more professional. Dark jeans or casual pants, dresses and skirts, untucked shirts (if you prefer), more casual sweaters, and nice shoes.

When working in schools, you will often be spending time with kids at the bus drop off, during recess, or lunch or maybe walking around the track. Most school counselors wear shoes that they can move around the school quickly in.

You will want to appear accessible and distinguished from the students that you work with. Another way to do this is to wear your identification card on a lanyard. Schools enjoy it when you participate in school spirit days and we encourage you to participate where you feel comfortable.
