Awareness of the basics of export controls and research security is a critical component of an effective research security program. Widespread knowledge of export controls helps to prevent inadvertent export control violations and other issues. To this end, the Director of Export Controls and Research Security is available to deliver training and informational sessions for PSU community members. Training and outreach can be customized to a group's needs and the areas where they are most likely to intersect with export controls or other research security areas
Online training is also available to the PSU community through the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI). CITI is a training platform available to higher education institutions throughout the US. PSU subscribes to several training programs offered by CITI, including their export compliance course. The export compliance training course consists of an introductory course and nine separate modules tailored to different audiences and activities. PSU community members can register by following the instructions in the registration box on the right side of the CITI homepage. Users must affiliate with PSU for access. Please contact the Director of Export Controls and Research Security for help getting started with the online training.
Those confirmed to be engaging in research requiring a Technology Control Plan are required to attend a training session with the ECO. Alternatively, the CITI export program can be completed. The ECO will assign which modules the learner should complete to fulfill their training requirement.
