We are the official recognized robotics club at Portland State University
The Viking Robotics Society is the official Robotics Club at PSU. VRS looks to provide PSU students with opportunities to build & learn about Robotics. VRS has several teams that work on different aspects of Robotics. Moreover, the VRS has a few teams that participate in competitions against other universities. VRS affiliates itself with a variety of organizations and companies that work in the area of Robotics. Many of its members encourage other members and PSU student s to start their own robotics projects within the group, such actions could potentially lead to expanding the subject areas for VRS and increase the opportunities for other students in the future. Engaging with Robotics can also lead to some rather interesting, long-lasting careers as well.
VRS welcomes all students and individuals in our endeavors. Come join our club during one of our project meetings or swing by the Electronics Prototyping Lab (FAB 84).
VRS aims to provide Portland State University students and the Portland Metro Community with opportunities to build and learn about Robotics through hands-on projects, participation in competitions, and collaborations with on-campus PSU MCECS Labs
VRS challenges its members to take on a more modern approach in the field of Robotics. VRS looks to create more Open Source & Open Hardware Robotics projects as well as help PSU students understand useful robotics concepts for the benefit of their future careers

In 1992, an ECE graduate student was working in the Intelligent Robotics Laboratory alone. They wanted to build some of their own robots for the laboratory so that future students could use them to create unique robotics projects and experiment with different kinds of robotics software/algorithms. Eventually others joined this 'unnamed' student in building robotics for the Intelligent Robotics Laboratory. This group would later set the foundation for Portland State University's Robotics Club.
Although these students have long since left Portland State University, the Robotics Club at PSU continues to innovate & educate. This robotics club goes under a new name, "Viking Robotics Society", inspired by PSU's mascot. We are a group of PSU students that create, design, fabricate, program, and test Robots and robot-related systems. Moreover, VRS provides students/individuals with opportunities to learn about robotics (software, tools, design, etc.). As technology advances, VRS seeks to be standing close to the edge of this "Cutting Edge" of technology.
