Non-Showcasing/Competing Students & Families

Teams Showcasing/Competing

Advisors will register competing/showcasing students using this jotform. Elementary Advisors will use the same jotform.

*Note: OPTING OUT of competing means they will receive feedback ONLY. Students are encouraged to come to their respective Demo Days regardless of if they have anything to show*

The Jot Form will ask:

MESA Chapter
How many teams from the chapter will showcase/compete
Team Name(s)
Team Members' Names

Email Jonas (jhudnall@pdx.edu) if:

Teams have a preferred language they want to present in other than English
Have specific needs for their table. (ex: an outlet for computer)

Event Overview

Demo Day is a showcase for students in MESA to present their projects to the community. Teams of 2-4 students will showcase their projects using posters, and any other visual aids they have. Demo Day guests will visit student tables and listen to as students pitch their project.

The pitch competition is optional. If students opt out of getting scored then they can't compete for an award but they will get judge feedback.

Teams will be responsible for finding their own transportation to Demo Day. Advisors can work with parents and/or teams from other nearby schools to arrange a carpool. If your team experiences major barriers to obtaining transportation, please let us know as soon as possible.

Each team will have part of a table to display their items. Electricity can be provided if teams let us know ahead of time that it's needed.

Rubric for Demo Day

*EQUITY NOTICE* Exclusively use this rubric ONLY in the classroom. Do NOT allow this rubric to be accessible to students outside of the class/MESA meetings. Doing so can lead to highlighting the very thing MESA is trying to remedy; systemic privilege's of some students at the expense of others.

Ex: Some students may not have parents, time, language ability (apart from Spanish/English but STEAM language vs business language vs government language etc.), and numerous other resources that can give them extra boost or 'leg up' that could help them outside of MESA meetings.
