The Sardine Seller's Net of Love

PSU Mainstage Kabuki, 2022

May 25, 26, 27, 28 (matinee) in Lincoln Performance Hall, PSU

「鰯売恋曳網」

The Sardine Seller's Net of Love, set in Kyoto in 1700, is the most popular kabuki play written by the brilliant and multi-talented Yukio Mishima.

It is the story of the improbable love between a humble sardine seller and the most glamorous courtesan in Kyoto. In order to approach her he disguises himself as a wealthy baron…

This play was a big hit when it premiered in 2010 presented by Willamette University, under Kominz’ direction. We had just one show in Portland, and audiences clamored for more!
