Welcome

Dorcas is a Ghanaian, born and raised in Accra, located in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. She obtained her bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi - Ghana, and worked as a Teaching Assistant in the same university. She also received her master’s and doctoral degrees in Statistics from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2017 and 2020 respectively.

Presently, Dorcas is an Assistant Professor of Data Science in the Fariborz Maseeh Department of Mathematics & Statistics at Portland State University. She focuses on advancing statistical foundations for data science, particularly, topological and geometric methods for statistical inference, applied topological data analysis and tensor algebra in conjunction with network studies, image processing and spatio-temporal modeling. Applications of her research include blockchain data analysis, resilience of power grid networks, anomaly detection in brain networks and multi-resolution Earth data analysis.

Dorcas is proficient in several statistical packages such as R, Python, SAS, among others. She also works with Matlab, LaTeX, Microsoft Office products, MS SQL, QGIS, and many others. Aside these expertise, she's open minded and always willing to learn and integrate new things.

Outside academia, Dorcas enjoys watching movies, spending time with friends and family, and listening to Christian teachings. She also likes volunteering and participating in religious and service events in the community.
