CIMR

THE CENTER FOR INTERNSHIP, MENTORING, AND RESEARCH (CIMR) AT PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY HOSTS PROGRAMS FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS WHO WANT hands-on EXPERIENCES IN research and professional environments.

CIMR features a variety of programs that provide mentoring, advising, and career development, including several that get students involved in faculty research projects and internships with community organizations and industry partners.

CIMR programs focus on diversifying and indigenizing the workforce in many fields such as health and medicine, STEM, and climate resilience.

CIMR is a central opportunity hub for making connections to these programs and preparing students to enter into research and internship opportunities. CIMR programs support students with the following:

BUILD EXITO

BUILD EXITO is an undergraduate research training program that supports students on their pathway to become scientific researchers. The BUILD EXITO Model aims to identify students early in their college careers and engage them in finding solutions to today's major health problems. BUILD EXITO is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

EXITO DREAM

PSU has provided funds to support students from historically excluded backgrounds, especially DACA or undocumented students, participating in undergraduate research!

DREAM is a program that will be for the 23-24 academic year. 

PROA

The Proa Pathways program is a cooperative arrangement between the Northern Marianas College (NMC) and Portland State University (PSU) under the U.S. Department of Education’s Asian American Native American Pacific Islanders Serving Institutions (AANAPISI) grant. This program supports Asian American and Pacific Islander students as they graduate from NMC and transfer to PSU by providing services that will help them identify career paths in STEM, receive mentorship and guidance, and gain research experience that aligns with their educational and career goals in preparation for their transition.

URISE

The mission of U-RISE (Undergraduate Research Training Initiative for Student Enhancement) at PSU is to recruit, train, and mentor students from historically underrepresented groups to continue biomedical research training. U-RISE Trainees are undergraduates who are committed to pursuing advanced education, research training, and a research career in a biomedical, behavioral, social, clinical, or translational field.
