Brittni Bishop - Master's Candidate
Brittni is studying the Harney Basin in Central Oregon by developing a basin model to reveal the region's tectonic and structural history. This basin has always been somewhat of an enigma, not fitting neatly into traditional conceptions of basin formation. This work also has implications for the basin's use in irrigation and as a geothermal resource.
Rud Moe - Master's Candidate
Rud is studying Chehalis Basin stratigraphy to construct a basin model that reveals the region's tectonic and structural history. This work also has implications for the basin's use in gas storage and recovery, and its potential for carbon sequestration.
Julian Cohen - Master's Conferred
Julian studied volcanic glass δD isotopes from the Rattlesnake Tuff distributed throughout Oregon to construct a late Miocene paleo-isoscape, useful for understanding temporal changes in Central Oregon topography and paleoclimate. His research was written into a peer-reviewed journal article which is currently in press.
Jane Eisenberg - Master's Conferred
Jane studied the textural and depositional controls on diagenesis of the Martin Bridge Formation (Triassic limestone) in the Wallowa Mountains of NE Oregon. Read her thesis here.
Alex McLean - Master's Conferred
Alex conducted a multi-proxy investigation into the paleoclimate and paleoelevation of the Cascade Mountains using the chemistry of ancient water inferred from volcanic glass and carbonate stable isotopes. He published his work in Frontiers in Earth Science here.
Cameron Greenwood - Master's Candidate
Cameron is doing research on spatial and seasonal variations in spring water chemistry (δ18O, δD, and TDS) in the Ochoco Mountains of Central Oregon.
Christian Henkel - Master's Candidate
Christian looked at Pleistocene lake connectivity in SE Oregon using stable isotope geochemistry of lacustrine carbonates.
Tessa Carlson - Master's Conferred
Tessa studied the viability of volcanic glass as a proxy for the topographic history of the Cascades. She presented her results at GSA 2017. See her completed thesis here.
Adrian Jimenez - Undergraduate Researcher
Adrian has studied the effect of a restoration canal on Sturgeon Lake located on Sauvie Island, Oregon using stable isotopes of meteoric water. This work has implications for the health of migrating salmon and birds in the Pacific Northwest. They presented their work at AGU 2021 which can be viewed here.
Natalie Petersen - Undergraduate Researcher
Natalie compared the isotopic composition (δ18O, δD) of snow stratigraphy between Mt. Rainier and Mt. Hood to constrain spatial variability in snow cores with implications for paleoclimate interpretations from alpine ice cores. She presented her results at AGU in 2021, viewable here.
Maya Felix - Undergraduate Researcher
Maya completed a research project that looked at the homogenization of stable isotopes in snow (δ18O, δD) on Mt. Hood through melting by comparing fresh snow samples with snow collected from a pit. Read her honors thesis here.
Bethany Carder - Undergraduate Researcher
Bethany completed a pilot project to understand the effect of southern Oregon terroir on the chemistry of cannabis grown there.
Mae Saslaw - Undergraduate Researcher
Mae studied mixing of the Willamette and Columbia Rivers across Sauvie Island, Oregon using stable isotopes of surface waters. See the poster she presented at AGU 2018 here.
Dougal Hansen - Undergraduate Researcher
Dougal sampled modern surface water along two east-west transects in the Pacific Northwest to characterize changes in 17O-excess and constrain associated forcing mechanisms. He presented the results at Goldschmidt in 2017. See his poster here. Results were ultimately published in Tellus B here.
Kara Kingen - Undergraduate Researcher
Kara worked with myself and Emeritus Professor Curt Peterson to constrain dune erosion rates on the Oregon Coast due to Holocene eustatic sea-level rise. See a poster she created here. She completed her MS at PSU working with Dr. Adam Booth.
Cody Holly - Undergraduate Researcher
Cody investigated whether anomalously negative δ18O values of carbonates in siliciclastic rocks from Kyrgyzstan are related to diagenesis. He presented a poster at GSA 2017. See it here.
