A unique feature of this Symposium is that participants may present research proposals in addition to completed manuscripts. This allows researchers to receive feedback on their theory and research designs prior to collecting data – the time at which feedback is most useful for researchers running experiments.
The Symposium will start with breakfast Friday and end mid-afternoon Saturday. Please plan to arrive in the region Thursday and either fly home in the evening Saturday or stay in town to enjoy the city. The campus is in the heart of downtown. The program will offer sessions for both proposals and completed manuscripts as well as sessions dedicated to the discussion of future research.
Participation by both faculty members and Ph.D. students is welcome. The registration fee includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Friday and breakfast and lunch on Saturday.
Registration Deadline: June 1, 2026
Regular Registration: $250
Doctoral Student Registration: $125
Proposals will be accepted until April 19. Early‐Stage Proposals – Proposals that have well‐developed theory and hypotheses. These proposals will benefit from informed feedback on theory and guidance on how best to design an experiment to test the hypotheses.
Full‐Stage Proposals – Proposals that have well‐developed theory and hypotheses, as well as a complete experimental design and planned statistical analyses. These proposals will benefit from informed feedback on theory and design issues prior to data collection. Doctoral students preparing a proposal for their dissertation are especially encouraged to submit under this category.
Complete Manuscripts – Manuscripts that are complete with data collected and analyzed. These manuscripts will most likely include those that are relatively new working papers or that resulted from proposals that were previously presented at the Behavioral Tax Symposium.
Special Roundtable Session - If you have an idea or proposal and want feedback but do not want to present to the entire group, consider submitting it to be part of our Roundtable Session. In this session, you will be paired with a senior researcher who will read your proposal idea and provide suggestions/feedback in a small group setting. When you submit your proposal, indicate whether you want to be considered for the Roundtable Session, regular presentation, or both (in which case the symposium organizers will determine where it best fits). Preference will be given to doctoral students or new faculty members (within three years of graduating) if this session is oversubscribed.
Submission Procedure
To be considered for inclusion in the program, proposals and manuscripts should be submitted via e-mail with subject heading “Behavioral Tax Symposium 2026 Submission” to Diana Falsetta at falsetta@miami.edu by April 19. Submissions from doctoral students and new faculty are especially encouraged. Notification of inclusion in the program will be made by May 4.
To facilitate participation by doctoral students, doctoral students can register at a discounted rate of $125.
