The Executive Seminar Program uses live case studies of complex or controversial natural resource issues as a focal point for advanced leadership development and enhanced understanding of governance principles. Each of the week-long seminars reconstructs a natural resource policy controversy by visiting the site of the issue, reviewing background materials, and meeting with decisive players. Though the facts surrounding each case are important, you are not expected to be or to become technical experts in the subject matter; rather, we concentrate on the public policy and process: what worked, what didn’t, the leadership lessons available through each case and what we can internalize to help us in our own professional arenas. Each individual seminar builds upon the information gathered at the last case study.
ESP alums--and our Advisory Board made up of your agency leaders--recommend that you be prepared to unplug from your email, cell phone and regular work duties in order to take best advantage of the unique professional development opportunity that ESP represents. We strongly encourage you to begin planning now to be able to step away from your work portfolio as much as possible while traveling with ESP.
