Gr. 11 students

Grade 11 students at David Suzuki will apply to the RISE program in their grade 10 year, and go through an interview process with the lead teachers.  Applications will be distributed before course selection in (November and December)  This will allow the students to select the Recreation and Fitness Leadership (PLF4M) and 2 credit Co-Op courses on their timetable for Grade 11.  The PLF4M is an anchor course for the program that allows the students to create a community and develop their leadership skills through the organization of many school activities such as: Terry Fox Run, The I Can Olympics, Tournaments within our school and feeder schools and SO MUCH MORE.

In addition to these leadership opportunities, Gr 11 and 12 students will also:


GRADE 12 STUDENTS:

Students in grade 12 will select the Individual and Small Group Activities Course PAI4OH.  This anchor course will have them using their leadership skills and mentoring our grade 11 students.   This mentorship will occur through the organization of events, as well as having the opportunity to continue continue to research and develop skills necessary for their post secondary education.

Upon completion of all SHSM requirements, at graduation students will wear a stole of distinction to highlight their accomplishment at the ceremony.  They will receive a leather portfolio with the RISE logo that contains their certifications and other awards or certificates earned which may be used to apply to post secondary institutions or employment opportunities.

Become part of a movement

 Our video for our Friday Night Lights. Our RISE students spear head this initiative with over 500 students and their families in attendance! A HUGE success and a great builder of community and Suzuki Spirit! 

Partnership with ALL DAY FIT

With a focus on team building and improving self confidence, All DAY FIT works with our students in a mentorship and activity based program.

ALL DAY FIT creates programs based on the interest of our students to promote being Healthy and Active for Life.

Feeder School Mentorship

Students in the RISE program will get opportunities mentoring students in our feeder schools through experiences such as the I Can games, officiating tournaments and hosting Grade 7 and 8 visits to David Suzuki Secondary School.

Organizing and Hosting School Events

Students will have the opportunity to plan, organize, and host school wide events. Developing leadership, team work and resiliency skills which transfer to all pathways and life experiences.
